Clickable maps - Unfair

Postby oggiss on Mon May 19, 2008 3:25 pm

Okay, since twill wanted some more background on the other one I am making a new one.

Clickable maps is quite absurd. In speed game freestyles like 8 player Classic or 6 player AoR - Magic they are used a lot, and I can't say more than that it is a real advantage of having it. I even thought about downloading that shit, but then I changed my mind and thought, hey, I play this for fun and making some rants now and then. If you haven't played one of those above mentioned games you have no say in this matter. If you have just a little tad slow internet you are fucked up even if you have clickable maps. One with clickable maps can take 11 territories in 10 seconds, while player without clickable maps can take out approximately 4 territories in 10 seconds (TOPS). Using this in a game that is already dominated by the fastest players around - fair?

I am sorry for calling it cheat, but I have no strong word for is. And it sure is noob-bashing at high level. Even if I have my rants now and then I sooo much enjoyed freestyle games like those above mentioned - now I don't. If one with clickable maps joined you are screwed unless he is unlucky in the beginning.

Either remove this shit or make an option to not let players that has clickable maps join the games you create.

What you guys think?

Lackattack currently has "Clickable Maps" Pending on his To-Do list. It is one of many grease monkey-esque features we'd like to incorporate somehow to the website, just so you know.

Better that than a certain procent having it.

It's unfair because not everyone uses it? Hmm not sure about that logic. After all, all parts needed (FF, GM and the script) are free for anyone to download/use.

But as I can see your point why not petition for the function to be included in the basic CC program so it would be available directly for everyone? Wouldn't that solve the unfairness?

Edit: Kind of pre-empted. But... How would it only be "better" and not solved???

Scripts cannot just be removed... they are already there...

It would involve work from Lack to stop the script working...

And then more than likely it would be workaroundable within minutes...

Lack cannot get the script removed from the site - as it's not on the site - it is hosted elsewhere...

I have no opinion (or say, as oggiss sez... no say) because I'm clueless as to what "Clickable Maps" do or what their purpose is. Maybe someone can post a summary of the CM functions or point to where this is discussed with a link.

my rank has dropped drastically since almost everyone is using CM- there's a definite edge there. Either download it or don't but quit whining. No one is preventing you from being a clicky.... it's an added advantage for anyone that wishes to use it. I haven't and have no desire to atm.

clickable maps are kinda like steroids in baseball... even if you don't want to use them, you almost have to just to keep up with the people that do

p.s. i don't use any extra downloaded scripts or whatever they are, which is why i generally avoid freestyles like the plague. i don't stand a chance vs all those roidheads

This is not true... connection speed is the bigger edge by far. No matter how much I sit there hitting F5, F5, F5, clickable map doesn't help until you get the "start turn" button, and even then it actually takes more time to communicate with the server I am convinced.

I just played two frestyle games against the same guy on feudal today. If you want to know why I use CM, take a look at how the numbering was set up... and try to get straight whether you want to attack "Barbarians 7" or "Lake 7" when your sitting on "Lake 6" and are looking at your enemies army on something that says "7". How many times I've gone against 10 neutrals and screwed a game is beyond me, but it really sucks when it happens.

Back to today's games - the first game I with scripts running (yeah, I turned off BoB... it was that close) and the lag was shit. I got toasted on one critical cross attack and that was it. In the rematch, I went to IE, no scripts, the lag was slightly less and I won, even though there were no clickable maps. Both games were on high speed connection, so I have no idea what connection other people have... but some players must be really press F5 a lot faster than I can.

If you want a level playing field, figure out how to drop a token in freestyle game to correct for connection lag. And if you can't win an alternating sequential game because your tactics suck, don't cry because someone is getting the "edge" on you and playing faster than you... that's what freestyle is about.
My ever constant two last games seem to have no end in sight!

Pressing F5 is your problem...

This forces a whole reload of the page...

Press the "refresh map" button - and the server has to do less work - thus giving you more focused throughput.

i think it should be incorperated into the site, at least the counters and such, usefull information, seeing percentages and territories at aglance is helpfull. but speed differences are unfair in the freestyle games. as of yet i dont use it but like the idea of seeing the statistics at a glance very useful.

You can't EVER beat the hacker. AOL tries to block Trillian, Apple tries to lock the iPhone, Linksys tries to lock the firmware on their routers. Who handled it right? LInksys....they released a special open source product.

Lack is great is promoting these scripts, and even better for incorporating them into his product. A smart man hires lots of people to develop a great product. A brilliant man lets fans do it for free...and then integrates the best into his own product. A retard(apple) tries to block the fans and prevent the activity.

I know what you meant to say, just wanted to point out that 000000000.1% is the same as saying 0.1% or 1/1000 of Apple which is actually a lot. Another math misunderstanding averted!

I just wanted to say that I made 130-odd points the other day because buddy ran out of time, and he said he lost due to Clickable Maps putting up too many confirmation windows. He wasn't able to finish off an opponent within the time limit, and I cleaned up the cards and won, where I would certainly have lost otherwise. Hooray for Clickable maps!
