Organized Game Joining = Cheating ?

I joined CC with several friends. We play the bulk of our games against eachother b/c we're freemium cheapies. Somehow, an arguemet cropped up amongst us where on of us believed we were abusing the rules. We talk on gchat or aim or whatever and someone sets up the game and we all join, works pretty well. Especially considering that for a most of our CC time we've all been freemiums (recently one of us decided to pay).

Anyways, one argues setting up pseudo-private games via some form of external communication is against the rules. I argue that it is not enumerated in the rules nor is it a gross abuse of the game.

Who is in the right here? I really want to rub this thread in my friend's face.

I can't imagine anyone who'd think this was cheating. Well, that's not true, I know of one guy here who thinks pretty much everything is cheating, but that's aside the point.

is it just you and your friends joining, or do you start games that would take other people to fill? If it's just you guys, no problem, but if some other person gets into a game with a bunch of you, and they find out you all know each other, I could see them getting pissed off if they don't win. Even if you play completely fairly towards everyone, it could easily be confused for a secret alliance.

wait a second. did you say one of you bought premium? You know that freemiums can join private games, they just can't start them. Just get the paying friend to start the games.

Hehe, I think he's asking if you can set up a game outside of CC, give eachother the number, and everybody joins before anybody else can.

I don't see how that is against the rules as I've done it before (even though I can create PW protected games), but I'll let the smart people like Wacicha, Twill, and Wicked handle this :D

The actual practice is that we all sit in a group chat on google. Someone makes the game and all other participants are waiting patiently with their browser on the last page of "Join a Game." The creator types "go" in the chat after the game is created and everyone mashes refresh till the game appears which is generally like 1 second of mashing. All slots are filled by our small little group, no strangers allowed. The result is a pseudo-private game. The arguement was whether or not it was a fair practice and allowed by the rules/site.

As an addendum, I don't see how this practice is functionally different from creating Public team games with one's preferred partner(s). The Join a Game section has many such games available. Its not like there's a real difference between I want Player X as my partner against 2 randoms and I want a game with only Players A through F.

this was already answered, it's not illegal. and why doesn't your one premium friend just set up games now?-0

b/c he is often incapable of taking turns during the workday and sometimes others of us want a faster paced game (but not speed/RT) to pass the day.

Anyways, if the practice has been deemed kosher by TPTB, then thats all that matters to me. I can now rub this thread in the original arguer's face.

My friends and I used to do this all the time. One of us would start an 8 player game and 4 of us would be in the game while the other 4 were just random players who joined. If anything, we attacked each other more than the other 4 players simply because we have intense rivalries within our group of friends.

Well, if you guys talk and share info on a google group, I believe it is now illegal under the new rules implemented.
ALL game related chat must now be in the CC chat window.

I dotn have the link to confirm, but I think i'm right.
Someone care to share the link?

Ok, im, partially right/wrong if you guys do it the right way and declare a truce PUBLICLY, you cannot talk about it in your group afterwards, it has to be done in the chat, for everyone to see.

I quote:
Rule #2 Change

To promote fairness and counter-negotiation, we have changed Rule #2 to encompass all forms of secret diplomacy. That's right, it all has to be done in game chat now. This will require some of you to change the way you do things, but it is for the better of the club. Please take a moment to review Rule #2: No secret diplomacy on the Rules page.

well, it would have to be a TEAM GAME to be smart TEAM PLAY, and they aren't playing team games... unless my reading comprehension has somehow escaped me this evening, i do believe they are playing against each other for fun, and not team games...-0

Somewhere along the line the fact that we only do this to create games against each other was lost. There's no alliances to start the game off, we just want a game amongst friends only. We understand that if join games with strangers we are more likely to have secret alliances b/c we know each other so that situation is generally avoided.

You must of not gotten the memo. Friends=cheats. It doesn't really matter what the details actually are. Regardless of what you're doing, the conversation will trend towards ways that you are likely cheating. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I am unfamiliar with this "ashamed" you speak of. Is it readily available for purchase?

Also, games with friends only, no strangers (beats head against desk), shouldn't force this conversation down the cheating road. Secret alliances and the ilk were never the issue in question.

It's not cheating. But your premium guy can create the game then one of you can sign up and he can drop out. That way you have a game with out him. I have done what you have done numerous times and it's not cheating as long as you don't include other people or don't talk about the game outside of the thread.
