Account Sitting-

Postby Scott-Land on Sat Jun 28, 2008 4:31 pm

With the holidays coming up, there's certainly more demand for account sitters. I'm personally sitting for 3 different players atm. In two separate instances, two account sitters took turns for a player that's in my games. The turns that were taken by these players weren't exactly high rank caliber turns and a couple were merely suicides. Did he suicide and then just typed in someone that was sitting for him- or was the player that terrible?

I think we have a responsibility to the players in the game to get someone that has some idea how to play at that level. One of the sitters didn't do anything wrong, but there were blocks missing and several other things missed merely because that player is not familiar with the game nor does he have experience in those types of games. The other sitter randomly attacked 2 big stacks of mine in two different games. Although I have no idea who that player even is. I'm holding the player that he sat for accountable. There's absolutely no reason for a cook to sit for a major or a brig. Extreme analogy but you get the point.

These guys should be more responsible for whom they choose to sit for them. It affects all players in the game.

I don't believe it is up to you to dictate to others what caliber of babysitter they should find. I would wager that a vast majority of the players on this site (if they even find a babysitter) are only going to feel comfortable giving access to their account to someone they either know in person, or that they play with on a regular basis.

Neither one of these things means that their babysitter will automatically be of the proper "caliber" to play in their games.

Let me give you a real life example: Night Strike has been on vacation for the past 2 weeks. As a member of Team CC it is policy that the only people allowed to babysit his account are those with at least his level of access or higher. At the moment, the only person with the time to do such a thing is me, Optimus Prime. It is no secret that I am nothing near the caliber of player that Night Strike is, but regardless of that I think I made smart enough moves to not mess up his games in a drastic manner, and to even win a couple of them for him.

Just because you are a high caliber player, Scott-Land, doesn't mean that everyone has to live up to your expectations. Sure, being a member of Team CC is a bit different for finding a babysitter, but even in situations other than that I have watched accounts for rallison and BaldAdonis respectively, and managed to keep track of their games without too much trouble. Nobody anywhere would say I am anywhere near as good a player as either of them.

It's not up to you to decide or suggest who babysits an account. It is up to you to play your game and get the win, regardless of who is taking that turn.

I agree with Prime, a ways back i was out for alittle over a week do to national guard training, and i have about 150 active games going at any given moment, because of this the people in my clan couldnt handle it so i had to have 3 separate people updateing my games, shareing the load... honestly im just happy if they get online and i dont miss turns, if i come back and my rank is lower so be it, im just apprechiative that they did the work for me :) (though surprise to me i was the same rank when i came back  )

The other way around i helped a friend with his games, i have 150 as said, and he had just about 100... so i had about 250 games i had to watch after and in his games i didnt exactly study the map to its full potential because of the load being so huge!

Another point, im a WAY different player then most of those i play with... im a SUPER agressive player, i never sit back and wait to strike i take my early chances to a quick advantage, and when someone takes over my account they slow it WAY down, i came back to see some of my games turn into building games! even though the players may be to my level or even better, our styles are so different that it hurts some of my games lol

I think this falls under the category of, something that can be annoying and cause problems but is too complicated or overreaching to fix.

At the end of the day, it's just a game. If you need to have someone take your turns, you shouldn't have to jump through any hoops to get that done. Obviously some of the times, things like this will happen but it just doesn't seem worth being overbearing in restrictions upon who can babysit.

To be blunt it's a game get a life ffs !

I forgot to give my babysitter my new password and it cost me more than 500 pts. I'd rather have had a cook play crap for me I wouldn't have lost so many points I was down to 1st private. I'll be back at lieutenant within 2 weeks but it's been a hit no doubt.

I'm not trying to dictate or suggest who sits their account. I'm saying show some courtesy and respect to the players involved. Perhaps leave notes for the sitter. But to throw a child in the deep end of the pool is a bit negligent.

agreed but the only person I trust is my RL friend lucky he's lieutenant but if he was a cook I would still give him my password over a stranger.

I agree with the topic.

What bothers me even more than this is when high ranking players sub for mid/low ranked players. One particular game I'm thinking of was a doubles match in a tourney where one of my opponents, a Lieutenant, was subbed by two different Colonels on two different occasions.

He wasn't asking for a rule to be implemented, otherwise it would be in Suggestions/Bug category. He was merely asking for other players to try to show courtesy when doing it.

However personally, I think if time calls, sometimes you just need to get someone to take your turns. As long as they have the basic knowledge on what to do, they might not see the blocks as well, but as long as they know the basic gist of what to do, it's really as much as you can do. That's why it's sitting hopefully for a relatively temporary time.

Your scenario is an isolated one-- I'm not sure what you are.... mod or whatnot. I didn't suggest that they get high caliber players to sit their account. I said that it's our responsibility to have someone sit the account that knew how to play. My reference to 'high ranking caliber' was my description of that player's move. Obviously, it would be extremely difficult for someone to sit for me using that logic. Perhaps 3 players the most that I would trust sitting my singles games but that's not my point. There are many ways you can be responsible and respectful of the other players in the game.

I also understand that there are circumstances where it can't be helped-- ie emergency or last minute plans, etc

I follow your logic here, but I pose a question then. What counts as being respectful and responsible to the other players in my games? You stated earlier that "to throw a child into the deep end of the pool is a bit negligent," but in CC terms, who constitutes as a child in your mind? Is it someone with drastically less experience in the game then the others, discounting score of course, or is it someone who just doesn't play as well?

I feel that just finding a babysitter so that the turns get done, and the game continues to move is quite responsible and respectful of the players who decided to join a game with me.

Like you, my circumstance is an isolated one as well. For most of the players on the site, I totally agree that finding just a babysitter is quite responsible and adequate. When you throw in a player that hasn't a clue on how to play escalating into a game with all high ranks isn't responsible nor adequate.

If the player isn't skilled or familiar with the game type, leave game notes. When I sat for Greycloak, he had a lot of no card games which I'm not too familiar with but he left explicit notes and instructions for me. Ensured that I made no drastic moves that affect the outcome of his game and that of others in the game. You don't think allowing someone to sit your account with no instructions, notes, or previous experience in a particular game setting is not irresponsible?

Let's not be too literal over an analogy that I made-- surely you got the message?

What does that mean JR? *manimal left for vacation yesterday and asked me at the last minute to sit his account because he couldn't find anyone else. An old mentoree of mine, millertime13 pc's broke and he asked me to sit his account today until tomorrow. I also received a pm from JesusReigns if I could sit for him from June 23rd- July 3rd. Of which, my response was only as a last resort. Three players of whom I have no active games with.

It's probably because you know I'm playing triples again-- isn't it? Because I've wooped you in the past? It's ok-- the points aren't worth it to me. You can apologize to H2 and PTLowe for me, because after that idiotic post.I have no interest in their offer. And here I was trying to defend you to some of the other guys about your behavior. What a shame--

EDIT: The first date of 23rd is a typo, it's the 29th as I have not agreed to it nor do I have his pw.

I know it was an analogy, mostly just curious as to what your thoughts are on how to determine being responsible in that situation. For example, my wife has played 100 games here at CC, she's dabbling in everything except for freestyle if my memory serves me right, and I would say that she could adequately handle pretty much any game thrown her way for a temporary period.

As for notes and instructions... I guess it really depends upon the way you play here. I play a variety of settings and don't leave notes for my babysitter and things always turn out just fine. I could see how others might be a little worried about that type of thing though. Do I consider it irresponsible to not leave notes or instructions? No, I don't. I think that a player with adequate experience (50+ completed games) can handle things for a week or so if I'm gone and the need were to arise.

Then again, no Brigadier would want to play me anyways. ;)

i trust like 6-7 players to account sit...most are around my rank or higher...all of them i speak to on msn/skype so have no problem with it.
but i do sorta agree with scott...it can be frustrating when the account sitter does something stupid cause they have no idea how...its happened to me (left with several waterloo games) and i jsut asked someone for advice...yer

Actually this topic got steered away from the OP because of JR's stupidity. It was supposed to be an awareness post about account sitting in general.
