Who would you rather play??

When playing singles games or team games who you would rather play? Do you want to the rookies in your games or would you rather seek out better comp?

Personally for me I mainly play 8 man freestyle games. I like to play all ranks, but I know playing better people will make me better in the long run and also they will not suicide me for a bonus, which 95% of the time is meaningless. Anyhow who would you rather play?

I am sure someone will say all ?'s so they can farm points. For me I enjoy winning the game more than the points. Beating better people gives me more satisfaction.

I've been mostly playing escalating terminator games lately, so I would really like to play against higher ranks, much higher please :)

I also would rather play higher ranks in any other game type. I don't think you can get better playing less skilled players. (Not saying all lower ranked players have no skill, they just have a higher chance of it than a higher ranked player.)

Well Paddy I have seen quite a few majors and up playing in my freestyle public games. But in general you are correct. Many stay away from public games.

I like to play with ppl around my rank. I also like to play anyone that has a decent rating (probably at least 4.5).
So if I drop to cadet or cook then yes, I will probably play with them most of the time, but only if they have good ratings...

I prefer to play people my rank or higher, both so that I don't lose a ton of points if I don't win, and also because they're usually better strategists (I can learn from them).

I don't like playing with 'less skilled players' as someone put it because they'll do things for seemingly no reason. you can't predict their actions and often what they do will cause you both to lose. they're also more prone to attack based on revenge.

I like to play a mix of higher and lower b/c on one side you got the strategists and on the side you got the unknown, you don't know if there strategist or erratic makes it interesting.

Generally, I'd say I like to play a mix.

But that would be a lie, and it's got nothing to do with points. If I beat a badass, I feel pride. If I lose to said badass, well, that's why they're badass.

However, if I beat a dipshit, all I feel is relief, since I expect to beat a dipshit. But if, through some combination of drop, dice, mistakes on my part, whatever, I lose to a dipshit... well, let's just say that it ain't exactly an emotional picnic.

But that's just for 1v1, 2v2, trips and quads. As far as large singles games, I'll play with badasses every single time. I'm in a semi-open 8p escalating game at the moment (in a tourney that I, perhaps foolishly, joined on a whim), and I have a bad feeling that I'm going to get a harsh reminder why I haven't played an open singles game in a long long time.

So true- hahaa....you lose to the dipshit , you've just replaced him.

As in everything I do, I love good competition. I'll play with the best any day to match my skills against them. If by chance I come out on top- well there's no greater satisfaction. As the old saying goes-To be the best you have to beat the best.

I like playing with anyone who joins the games I join. Some noobs are actually enjoyable. Some latch onto your leg and never leave because they think you're God (RIGHT BRUCE?) The only thing that sucks is when idiots join just to be idiots. Buuut I have to say all of the people I have on my friends list, and those I really enjoy a game with have to be the higher ranked, smarter, much more enjoyable players. I just need to get a bit better so I can actually be some competition to them. Right now it's basically "Oh hi insom-- let me take your points from you" :) Which I don't mind that much, they deserve them :D

I agree with insom about the "noobs" or whatever you want to call these people latching on to you because they think you are good. Personally I do not mind advising games. Also I will say Insom holds her own in games. She stole one from me not but a day or 2 ago. In the public games I have been running she is always a good match! Look forward to more.

I like a mix just fine, most of the time. Many decent ranks join in my public games and it seems the game goes better the more there are. Sometimes a whole string of games get messed up though when certain people join and are bonus freaks. Had 2 or 3 of them in about 5 games and I totally had to adjust. Move, hide, sneak. In the last week I prob. had half my public games botched by people taking me out across the map and destroying my chances big time. And they had no armies close to my other ones so they had no chance at Terminating me. Can drive you mad if you let it. The other half was botched by yours truly. I like the mix that public brings, but you can get hosed big time too by the bonus junkies. But, here for hoping for a better mix next time round.
Oh yea, the question. I would rather play higher ranks but still public.

Three player with lower ranks is a definite no-go, as I recently discovered. One screw up by them early on and the game gets thrown too far out of balance.

Since I mostly play 1v1, though, which does involve a fair amount of luck (i.e., on the maps I play, probably between 10% and 20% of the games are completely luck dependent ... and I'm not just talking dice that are slightly better than ideal), I don't mind playing all ranks. It's unfortunate, but higher ranks are generally more likely to get pissy in a 1v1 game I find. If you start up a chat with some tips for the lower ranked guys, they will give you a run for your money and also be appreciative a lot of times.

I like to bully question-marks or stripers.
Preferably, I make Private Speeds and invite them.

Hmm I am missing the who the jab is at, but you are one of the top players when it comes to Speed Freestyle. Hell I am sure you can play any style you wish, you just chose not to play some.

I really couldn't have put it any better.

I now only play (with very few exceptions) 1v1,2v2,3v3,4v4, and esc against colonels and above.
