I almost feel like it has lost the spirit of the basic game

It's there for people looking for something a little different.

No I think that is what keeps it interesting. SOme of the maps are so unlike the original game, that it broadens the site to attract more people. The only part of it I don't like, is when due to Clan War, I have to play types I am unfamiliar with. It is almost like complaining that there are too many bands putting out CD's. You don't have to listen to all of them..
PS Congrats on a REAL CC related thread. We all appreciate that.

I love the options!
If anything, there are a few of the more "traditional" maps that I avoid... but to each his own.

Then play the ones that still have "spirit".

some-one once said
variety is the spice of life
don't know and don't care who said it, but its a pretty fair statement don't you think?

We need more options, like 2 minute speed rounds and even more game modes...

If you want a game mode that REALLY spices things up = a limit of 4 cards before you are forced to hand in is what I used to play. You never know if someone is going to trade a set or nothing. It keeps you on your toes.
Also - escalating cards going up in denominations of 3's will help reduce quick seq games.
4 cards max and esc rate of 3's makes for an excellent game. You might be more inclined to kill someone with just 1-2 cards to grab a set

this is actually a very good thread. so chill out and stop calling names. i like the variety, and the medals are now making you try more maps that you would never venture onto before... however, i feel that too many maps are rushed out of the foundry without being ready; das schloss, pacific northwest, battle for australia, all come to mind... i love the variety and options of the maps. and if you only want to play something in the "original spirit" stick to classic and world...-0

I love all the options that are offered here. Like someone else said, if you don't like them, don't play them

I get what the OP was trying to say. Perhaps the maps need to be cleaned up(instead of them being in alphabetical order we could have them in gameplay, theme or some other grouping)

I can accept and would encourage even more maps and options than CC offers, currently.

Or in order of popularity based on games played in last month perhaps ...
And once a map has not been played for a month by
anyone* it automatically gets archived and only brought back to live play by a well supported community request ?
[* I wonder if anything would currently qualify ?]

I do believe a re-ordering of the maps in Game Finder and Start a Game is already in Lack's plans...

Short answer: NO
Longer answer: if there weren't a range of maps, xml features and gameplay options then I would have go bored long ago
re. cleaning up the user interface: there have been many many discussions re this in the foundry, and many options are valid, I just hope that there always remains the option to sort alphabetically so that those who know what they want can find maps easily... an as for maps disappearing through lack of interest - can't see that happening - Valley of the Kings is definitely the least popular map on CC, but it still has 33 active games, 1 of which is on round 429.

I have suggested this every time this or related topics come up. Nobody pays attention. Nobody cares. People who specialize in a map/have a couple of favs make the games... everybody else who prefers to shop for opponent quality joins rather than creates... thus you have little to no cross pollination.

I think there was a map selection project that was taking place, but the coder quit. But it's a priority on lack's list of to-do's. Believe me, we're about to break the 100 maps mark, and there is a lot of stuff out there to pick from. I think whomever suggested a "favorites" page to organize only the maps you like was a grand idea.

I think a favorites page is a bad idea. See above re: lack of cross-pollination. Categorical organization is the way to go.
