I share a couple of experiences.
First one, I was asked to babysit for the whole summer with someone who had a lot of games going and I was the only babysitter. I tried to keep up, and some were just closing roles, others were on maps I had never played, and some were positional games where the guy had virtually no chance at winning in my opinion. Some of those latter ones I didn't take turns in when I got overloaded. Overall, I think the opponents were not affected, if anything helped, by the fact that I was subing in and maybe didn't see exactly what the original strategy was and not that familiar with the map.
Second one. A guy asked me and an bunch of other people in the clan (unknown to each other) to take his turns for the weekend. I went in one morning and started to deploy, and in the middle, someone else was in the account and deploying elsewhere, which completely messed up the possible strategies. Again, this helped the opponents. In this case, there was a good reason to have many people taking the turns because the guy has like 100s of games going, and it would have been too much for one person to take.
I have yet to see anyone asking for babysitting when they are not legitimately away for a weekend or going off to summer holiday or something like that. But, of course, when they do, they are going to find someone who is going to hopefully do a decent job, and that usually means a higher rank player if they can get one.
