we were closing in on 200K facing off in alaska and sakha, and the armies
somehow magically reduced... so, now we are keeping track of the armies...-0

I'm proud to say that I was the first one eliminated in that game. I hit the start game button, and then hit deploy armies, but it wouldn't let me. I was killed within seconds of starting my turn.

Longest game of mine (couldn't go in after reaching around 100,000 armies) and lasted for several months.

Ran across a really old game with very few armies: Game 1494885

It is the opposite of what you asked for, but still, that few armies in a really old game is pretty amazing.
