Nobody here talks about fair play. Have a look at the top of the scoreboard.

Fair Play, being a good sport, is something many players worry about .. whether it is a concern for management or not is a differant issue.

BUT, You also have to distinguish between "over competetiveness" and being a plain, old-fashioned jerk (though sometimes there is not much of a line between).

The vast majority of us who are just here to play may not particularly enjoy being told that "we have the brains of slugs" (to use a mild form), but monitoring everyone's behavior so tightly would take WAY WAY too much time and, frankly be a bit oppressive. If someone is a real jerk or just plays in a way you really do not like, then add them to your foe list.

Define fair play? As for sportsmanship I think we can all say we have lost our cool one time or another. It happens, but best thing to do is take it in stride. Say your sorry and move on. I have PM'ed a few people after a game where I had a mini meltdown. In the heat of the battle we all say things at time we do not really wish to say. How you clean it up is another thing.

I did not start this thread, but I see only a few things, other than cheating, as being not quite fair.

One would be making an alliance in a 3 person game BEFORE that person has gotten strong. That is, when that is the only chance of defeating the person, OK, but to say in round 2 "hey, joe, let's knock this new person out and play 1 V 1" is not right, even if it is announced and therefore technically legal. Doing that in a 4 person is not much better, except that at least the other 2 can reciprocate.

Revealing an opponent's location in a fog game.

Ganging up on one player or a couple of players (and not because they were complete jerks in chat or some such)

Intentionally going out of your way to play only those who are of much lower rank .. and not because you want to mentor them.

Lying. Usually it is pretty obvious ... I just find it plain distasteful. Play hard, but play honest.

Playing freestyle real time and then dilly-dallying to take your turn so you can get the advantage ... is "borderline". If you know the other person cannot stick around, I would say it is over the line.

I am also starting to think that keeping a set team of 2 players, 3 or 4 and limiting who you play severely could be unfair to people who really want the chance to play better players and move up into the elite ranks. This does not affect me. AND, I want to be clear that it is perfectly understandable that the elite folks want to play better players, that folks will like to team with thier friends, etc. I just think there should be some limit so that it is not an exclusive club based on who they decide to play rather than skill/wins.

Other than that, I think most "sportsmanship" issues are not really "fair play" issues. Someone who throws a tantrum when losing (giving everyone a few passes ... even the nicest people get in bad moods now and then), who eggs on others when they win (joking is one thing... being cruel or obnoxious is something else). Someone who seems to think every sentence must contain foul language, someone who will constantly berate and criticize other players (ironically they are often not the best players themselves!), etc.... those are just plain jerks. Maybe they are fine in "real life", but in CC ... JERKS!

uh huh... kind of interested in what the OP is talking about, not in the retread of old GD subjects that have been debated to death. maybe this is going to be interesting if the OP comes back...-0

While fair play certainly is ambiguous, one thing is for certain....Grimreaper. does not play fair.

A speed game from over a month ago when the site was jammed up... commonne... get over it.

Yeah, things don't run perfect, and I've said from time to time they would have better site protocols about "upgrades" and "bloatsome" build games that jam up the server for everyone else, but actually this have been humming along pretty nicely for a while now without an "incident'. =D>

Everything I said is true though. When did you ever see me crying over losing 50 points though... a month later even. Even a freemium who gets in like 20 games a month won't remember a game like this 5 weeks later.

Welp, discussing the matter of sportsmanship:

JustB has none. I don't know if she is just keeping the other players in Sj's team clean or what, but it is just plain wrong.

As some of you may know, Sj, JustB, and 2 other players often set up Quad and Triples freestyle speed games. But the thing is, if you have any decent amount of speed and/or skill, you are foed. Not because you played a bad game, or were rude in chat, but because you can play better than them.

I played them once in speed, and my team lost fair and square. We all said good game, and left happy. A few days later, I try to enter another game, hoping to have another fun game. Then...BAM. I realize JustB has foed me.

I PM her to find out what the problem was. The problem was "I want to win".

Other players who have stood a chance at winning a game against them have also been foed.

This is just sad, especially when your sitting in rank 1 and still doing this. I can compare this to KLOBBER's actions. I do hope the other players are not involved with this.

I'm guessing JustB didn't want this discussed anymore, and it's going slightly off-topic so I'm going to say JustB wanted the thread gone so I'm going to lock it JustB 4 it heads completely south.

If anybody still wants to discuss sportsmanship feel free to create a thread based around it :)
