Noob Farming/Point Hoarding/ Specializing

I am curious as to how you define each of the following actions/words. I have given my definition to all 3, although you may consider two of the definitions to be basically the same or possibly have different definitions for each of the words.

And just basically, what do you think about each of them overall and in relation to each other. and please give reasons. (If I wanted 2 word answers I would put up a poll.)

I have given the definitions I use so that we are all on the same page and not talking about completely different things using the same words. If a good deal of people disagree with them, I will edit this post to comply.

Noob Farming: The act of joining games with new recruits (or starting games with the purpose of having mostly new recruits join) as for the purpose for an easy victory in order to gain points.

Point Hoarding: The act of joining games with low ranked players (Privates and below) in order to gain an easy victory.

Specializing: Creating games on a difficult map/settings combination in order to use one's own knowledge of that particular game type to win the game easily against unsuspecting players of any rank.

In my opinion, the first two are generally actions taken by people with no lives that are way too obsessed with their rank in order to win games. I am a little more partial towards the third because, in essence that is what complex maps are for. If everyone could play them easily, they would not be complex. They are designed to test one's skill, whether it is against a low ranked player or a struggle with another specialist on the same map.

they are all the same basically

in specializing you left out freestyle & speed which is a much bigger issue then a complex map

just play what you enjoy

Good Point on the freestyle speed thing. Clickable maps would fall into that category too probably. Although, I do believe I covered it in my first post. ;) just one word. Perhaps I should have elaborated.

The third is also one taken by people with no life.

Or just persons who are dicks.

It is possible to specialize and that is just enough to give you a razor thin margin of victory over most drops (a lot of specialists are no-cards types, so I won't say "overcome bad cards")... however not really fair to say its always an easy victory. That said, people who "specialize" in this way make a few games on their core map to keep fresh, but they don't use it as a point factory. For example, I might "specialize" in Alexander 1v1 because I know what territories are the key to balance the map, which continents are worth the cost of taking, etc. etc., but the map is what it is and dice can beat nearly any set up you might encounter on it, so not many of those "specialists" go out and use it like a factory. Also, I might "specialize" in AoR, because I know how to read fog based on bonuses and terit's held, but here, again, the normal specialist will play just enough to stay fresh and usually looking for a game against the steepest competition they can find, while the farmer sets up 20 or 30 of these games and uses them like a factory to rake in point

Specializing: Creating games on a difficult map/settings combination in order to use one's own knowledge of that particular game type to win the game easily against unsuspecting players of any rank.

so your basically saying nobody should ever create a game on what you feel is a hard map with settings they enjoy to play because there is a small chance someone of a low rank might join?

so why dont we just keep the map classic as the only map permitted to be played on this site with whatever options you feel is ok just so we dont have to listen to your crying.

that pretty much sums it up

That's not what he was talking about. You know the type. Klobber and lt.pie use the tactic of playing a map which is incomprehensible to most new players (and often older players) to ensure a certain victory. You can't deny that circus maximus or Waterloo are just noob-magnets for easy points.

I mean, I respect you for that. You aren't taking the easy-way to the top. You're really willing to be the best at the whole game, instead of just getting to the top-position by easy means. You aren't farming noobs, you just play a lot of games. A triples game with your settings isn't impossible, it's just hard because you know what better than the rest how to play the game. But others create an 8-player game on a very difficult map in freestyle and claim to be so much better.

Here's a more tangible definition that might further help people understand the logic behind them.

Noob Farming- Within the rules
This type of game play fills my heart with joy and makes me happy to be alive

Point Hoarding- Within the rules
I think this is a wonderful way to play the game and encourage all to partake in this very admirable past time.

Specializing- Within the rules
What a terrific way to utilize one's membership and demonstrate their individual strong suits.

Thanks Snorri! I appreciate you too. Maybe we could read some Calvin and Hobbs one day. Then meddle over our differences while we enjoy a tall glass of milk with some ginger snaps. My grandma and I use to do this sort of bonding accompanied with a nightly moral inventory before she started to touch me. Hence me growing into such a fine young man. That felt good to share.

Lol.

How do you define a difficult map, anyway? I've set up a few 5 man Europe games (speed) and been truly amazed at the lack of knowledge on show. It is certainly a lot easier for me to win those games quickly compared to setting up a similar classic game.

Noob Farming...personally I have no real problem with it. I don't buy the whole "It ruins the site" line nor the "The scoreboard is skewed" line either. Follow the Mr C philosophy in this: If it makes you happy....do it!

Point Hoarding...isn't a major point of this site to hoard points? ;) Also playing lower ranks does not equal beating up on children or stealing from old grannies. I suspect there is more arrogance in refusing to play a private because you believe he just couldn't give you a fair game.

Specialising...if someone takes the time to learn that hellish map waterloo (and I know I certainly won't bother) then there should be some payback for it.

P.s KingHerpes...sick, man. Very funny, but also very sick. However, if you really want to be controversial might I suggest changing the character of your grandmother to your grandfather next time? It was good, but a little tame for true controversial trolling.

Foeing every player that is better than you is also within the rules, it's still a dickmove.

You shouldn't be ashamed that you have erotic fantasies about your grandmother.

I can withstand being called a phallus, but every is such a powerful word. Oh, ho hum. One day people will read this complete thread http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=239&t=59231&st=0&sk=t&sd=a again, then realize that I only foe people that don't respect that I'm trying to farm by repeatedly joining at the top of my games. Sneak in at the bottom and wallah! You won't be foed and I can't drop the game. Hmmm, what a concept! Respect earns respect? I've never heard of that.

I fully agree with this statement except for the fact that I don't get why anyone would think I was being facetious. It's not my fault that I had an indifferent upbringing. I guess that's a no on the story time invite? Oh well, your loss.

Don't worry Snorri, Herpes is the cute bad guy. We should be more worried about people who disrespect good ol' farming by using lame excuses like 'it's just because I'm hunting medals'.

I would say, again, to "specialize" in some maps, i.e., I understand them better than many players, is what this site is all about. So there is an advantage going into the game - that's fine. It's also not FREE. When you start foe'ing good players who will give you a run for your money on those maps, and only play noobs and low ranks, then you are not a specialist - you are a rouge agent to be hunted down and beaten severely and mercilessly by other members of the "specialist forces".

That's ironic. My grandma also use to say I was cute. Although she forced me to be bad in her bed(She was so much stronger than I was at the time)... Hey! Maybe that's where I developed this cute bad guy persona.

I never said you did that. I was illustrating my point that just because something is within the rules it doesn't make it right.

the point is, they dont know who is going to join. Everyone sees them set the games up, including myself, but neglect to join the games that they like to play. So the games sit there until it is filled up by low ranks. Its not their fault. I personally dont like Circus Maximus so I dont join his games. If I liked the map, than I would probably join. Personally, when I set up 50 triples/quads, I pick a large selection of different maps, if not all 50 different, not knowing who is ever going to join them and neither do they. If players really disagree with their games, than join them and try to beat them. Perhaps they will move onto something different after they start losing at the games.

Indeed. However, anyone who has been on this site long enough knows that Circus Maximus or Waterloo or any of the difficult maps are more likely to be joined by low-ranks. The odd person who also knows how to play the map can be ignored because he is unlikely to join all the other maps of the same type. There are few who know the map enough to take on the creator, and there are plenty who don't know the map but think it looks interresting.

It's playing the system, and it works. lt.pie wouldn't be suddenly number 4 on the scoreboard if it wasn't for his point-hoarding on waterloo. It's simple maths and logical thinking. Farming is a good strategy to get points. I could even ascend the ranks if I just learned how to play a difficult map and then made tons of games with that map and settings that would help me.

Trips/Quads is a different thing. The number of noobs who join is offset by the number of capable players who join. Those games really boil down to teamwork because even if the others aren't experts on the map they can still win if the coordinate correctly. Getting to the toprank by triples or quads is not a shame. Especially when you do it on several different maps. You know how to play as a team, instead of just knowing how to play the map.
