1. In general, people respect higher ranks more.
2. Your games get filled quicker because people want to maximize their point gain, and minimize their loss.

I can only think of two possible reasons, and those are it.

I care about my rank since it allows me to join private games with other high ranked players. this is mainly cuz I want to play with good players, but it also means I won't get noobed because of my rank.

I care about my rank because my self esteem is rather low and it makes for a good crutch. Also, the bitches.

It is theorised that rank equates to e-penis size (along with other factors that you can find in any "TOP 10" thread by whoever the latest top dogs are).

There's a group of Islamic terrorists that is holding my cousin and his teddy bear hostage. They say that they will kill them if I don't get to 2500 points by the end of the year. However, if I make it to 2500 points, I get my cousin and his bear back, plus five barrels of crude oil for my trouble. Fair deal if you ask me.

Hm...I wonder if you could...huh...OK, have you guys heard of that guy that threatened to kill his rabbit unless he was sent something like $10000 by people over the internet? He actually got the money. Do you guys think that someone could threaten to kill their pet if people don't lose to you until you're at a certain point level and get some level of success? Theoretically, of course.

When I got up to captain, I just hated my name next to that symbol, I just thought that the combination looked horrible. then I changed my avatar, and the little diamond looks better now. Although I honestly can't think what it will look like when I get to major. Wes only 1 game away when I hit a bad luck streak.
