new classic map suggestion

Postby heavycola on Wed Oct 15, 2008 12:33 pm

and i'm not trolling, twill, or spamming, so STFU in advance, k tks

WHy not have a map based on the Old World Map? you know, orssi terrarium and whatnot. It's not copyrighted because the cartograopher died several hundred years ago. Also it would look very cool, plus you would have to make up names because kamchatka (sorry hasbro, I mean A12) didn't exist then.

Gameplay is intact, right, so don't we (and by 'we', i mean 'you map dudes') just need a new, uh format that is simialrly balanced?

Yea... replacing a copyright map with another copyright map is just pure win. I see no problems with this plan.

how about a little creativity and change the connectors to other parts of the continents...or just remove them all together. i have played the game without those extra pathways. it's quicker but still enjoyable. please do something about the colors; the scheme is hard on the eyes

How about we lock this thread and all go off to the right forum: The Map Foundry?

how about you let members discuss whatever topic they feel like discussing as long as it is within the rules of the GD. many times ideas have been hashed out in the GD before being moved over to the Foundry. if you would stop flying around acting as if you are a mod, and just settle down and "see" what people are trying to do, you wouldn't appear to be as arrogant as you are coming off. if the mods feel it needs to be merged into another thread, they will do it. if you feel that is the case, alert a mod to the thread and request it is merged into another already existing thread. however, it is not against the GD's rules to discuss what is being discussed in this thread-0

Well, I have done as you say: "alert a mod to the thread" a little while ago.

Also, I am pretty sure that the first thing you see while going into a forum is what topics should go in there. I support all topics about the classic and middle earth maps right now, although I have OCD and want things in the right place, not trying to act like a mod at all, just my OCD bothering me.

Well your supposed "OCD" is bother us, so bugger off and let us discuss our new Classic map in peace.

I'm not big on this idea, I don't like the look of that "old world" map and replacing it with that "Classic 2.0" map posted is simply not an option. It's got more territories and different connections than the current classic map, which would completely mess up current games going as well as games that have finished. No need to intentionally corrupt tens of thousands of games...

perhaps they can just remove the current "replaced" classic map so no one can start a new game, but can continue with the current game...and have a completely new map; the classic 2.0 added when done that has no affect on the current. I have to side with hecter...the "old world" just won't cut it. what about a futuristic looking map? Again, a lot of things can be done with the continent connectors to distance itself from the original classic map. perhaps some coastal areas can be added? How about making a few different versions and then putting it to vote? Maybe you could encourage anyone to make a classics map and turn it into a competition?

oh, like the competition that is going to happen in the foundry? it was announced the same day they took down classic. also, there will be a replacement map for people to play until the new map is ready, within 3 days. all the info is here, you just have to read it.-0

They way I see it we will probably end up with two "classic" maps at the end of this. The probably called Classic will likely be a graphically improved version the current classic map which will preserve the original game play, but look nothing like the old classic and probably not a world map. The second will be a new World map that has different game play than old classic but feels kind of like classic.

Yeah dude, lay off the ice for a few days. Get some sleep. You'll find the OCD side effects abate within about 72 hours. Although the withdrawal will probably suck for you.

LOL so the pussy moderators moved my thread out of the public eye...apparently they want everyone to think that CC is under some kind of legal threat even though they have received no contact from Hasbro or any lawyers...

But my suggestion for classic map still stands: a 64-territory map which I heard about is retarded, leads to neut terrs in 2- 3- and 5- player games. Obviously if you want a map with that many terrs you want a 60-terr map. Means no neuts in 2- 3- 4- 5- and 6- player games!

I can't agree with changing anything with regards to the gameplay. Add and extra connection here and an extra territory there, or increase or decrease the continent values at all and it ceases to be the classic map.

I am currently trying out the Canada map and this is fine, but once you start buggering around with the classic map it ceases to be that map and becomes just another map, as the Canada map is. (I really like the Canada map, by the way)

I expect the site to either change the map so radically as to effectively make it a new map or start paying Hasbro royalties as I understand Landgrab does.

However, there will be a storm of quite justified criticism if CC claims that they have a classic map that isn't, in fact, a classic map. In that situation it would probably be best to simply not have a classic map at all and have those clever map guys design their own completely new world map (a la 2.1) and call it 'CC World Map' or something like that.

This is a question of intellectual property and I have always felt that the Classic map is Hasbro's intellectual property and should be respected as such. Therefore either pay Hasbro their dues or don't use the map and design a new map for CC.

I kind of like that design. May need a few edits but overall pretty good.

Sometimes a simple idea is the best...

How about calling the map something like "Terraformed Mars" or "New Earth", keep all the connections identical, replace the planes with spaceships, slightly (just a bit) change the shape of the countries/continents and play with the names of the territories to come up with things New Britain and New New Quinea. :-k

Problem solved, Bob's your uncle, Fannies your Aunt.
