Best Color

Has anyone ever done a study of which color tends to win the most? Obviously not suggesting that the gameplay is rigged in favor of one color or another, but rather referring to the psychological intrinsics of colors, like red being intimidating, blue being pacific, etc. Would be curious to know if there is any statistically significant difference between the colors.

I mean, on a strict number of wins basis it would have to be one of green or red, since they appear in every game. But if you are looking for (# of wins for a color)/(# of games the color has appeared in), then I have not seen any analysis done.

Well bugger me!!!!!! An american that can spell. :D

Red gets my vote as the least winningest colour, as a percentage, because its the brightest and therefore more easily targeted.

Simple statistical answer would have to be Blue... the scales tipped by 2 player freestyle where the 2nd player (blue) goes 1st and has a distinct advantage... or so i have heard, I never played a 2 player game myself...

But as for a color advantage in actual gameplay, if you are playing strategically challenged opponents then sure... for example, being blue in europe would be a big plus... I have also found that certain troop counts on certain countries in certain colors can be easily overlooked... but seriously, how many players even think of such stealth tactics... I would love to see the statistical results from 6 player games to see if any specific color really does bear out an advantage.

and black jesus... i must point out that since you would not meet me on my terms (6p classic, esc) we engaged on turf unfamiliar to me (6p world, flat, fog Game 2907461 )... and in our only engagement, your black blood was splattered all over your pink uniform, your rotting corpse laid beside my other enemies until, in the end, there was only myself and my strategic superiority. :P hehehe

You let yourself down there by using "winningest", which is not actually a real word. [-X

It really depends on the game settings...In a 2 player game it is probably green, but in a 3 player game possible red or blue. Now that is just a guess from my experience...

Actually it's hoity-toity not hoity toity...and if you are going to use indigenous slang, the word is Guv'ner, but do carry on.

I did an unscientific survey a long time ago. contrary to what people might have thought, green was actually the winningest color, although just barely, over red.

Um - no it isn't. Just because it has been used on TV by some linguistically challenged sports commentator doesn't mean it's a real word. You can't just make any old word into a superlative by sticking "est" on the end of it. It only works with adjectives and adverbs (i.e. fast, fastest, quick, quickest). "Winning" isn't either, ergo "winningest" is not a properly formed word.

Actually it is in use in the USA.

You may not have noticed, but the BBC were subtly taking the piss big time during the recent Olympics when an American commentator used the word, I was amazed there were no complaints such was the cruelty with which they referred to it. The true 'English' word would be 'winningmost'.

Another example of two nations divided by a common language.

Actually, winning is an adjective. And winningest is definitely a word.

You may well be able to find "winningest" in Merriam-Webster. You won't, however, find it in (e.g) Chambers, nor in the Oxford English Dictionary.

I'll accept that "winning" can be used as an adjective, but that still doesn't mean you can make a meaningful superlative from it. There are some adjectives, such as "unique", that simply can't be used in that way. "Winning" is used to identify an particular person or thing rather than to describe it in general. i.e. the winning goal, the winning athlete. It makes no more sense to describe someone as "winningest" than it does to describe them as "uniquest".

And if that weren't enough, whether written or spoke, it's just plain ugly.

Actually, winningest has been in recorded use since at least 1870. And while you can find it in Merriam-Webster, the foremost dictionary of American English, you can indeed also find it in the Oxford English Dictionary, the definitive lexicon of the English language. I don't know if you have a copy, but here is the quote from it: 1974 “John Bates, coach of Maryland-Eastern Shore, at 26-1 the WINNINGEST college basketball team in the nation.”—State (Columbia, South Carolina, 5 March, page 6-A/7)

you have a point here... one would think that every number is for the most part even just like the dice, however freestyle gives advantage to the last person to join SO I would conclude that red is the biggest loser, while Silver (last color) will win more just beacuse of freestyle adding the slight edge to the table
