Holders who want to play against Holders.

I have received a lot of flack about my tendency to hold. I'd like to compile a list of fellow holders or people who don't mind holders and play games against each other. I think the double turn hold move is a cool twist to an already awesome game. The less narrow minded player recognizes all the new strategy that comes along with this new twist and has embraced it. Seems like people get pretty pissed off at us holders so i stopped joining games and started my own games in hopes that people who hate holders and recognize me as a holder wouldn't join and then wouldn't have a reason to whine. FELLOW HOLDERS UNITE AND MEET ME ON THE BATTLEFIELD!!!

I only hold when the next moves really count or if someone else is holding as to make them stop as they know theyll die slower but i dont mind holders if 1.they cant do much damage 2.they are in a shitty position and need to move fast

As a twist, I want to say that I never join a game. I always start my own. So, I'm going on record as saying please don't join my game if you want to hold. Especially since most of my games don't allow double turns. There are plenty of other games waiting for you. You're more than welcome to play in my game if you refrain from holding.
Of course, now some brat will decide to join my games and hold anyway.

lol, a game consisting entirely of holders

what you'll end up with is just about everyone taking their turns with minutes till the next round lol, negating the effects of it lol.

Thanks for your input, Aladriel. I normally start my own games too, so me joining your games is not something you should worry about.

Darkfire, i'm just trying to avoid people like you who whine about it. Since you know i hold i find it odd that you joined a game that i started and then chose to whine about it afterward. But i respect your opinion and right to whine...and crackers.

Heh.. wasn't necessarily directed at you personally. Just toward all of you "evil holders"!

Already stated, it was an oversight. Failed to see who was hosting when I joined.
But i respect your opinion and right to whine...and crackers.
Crackers? What?
Its not like my bitching is unjustified, like I'm complaining about my rolls or the turn of my game. However, I dont want to butt in on your topic and stray too far off course. So keep holding on.

... Holding is a "tactic" used by folks who cannot compete in a fair game. Dress it up in any verbal decoration you choose, but it's still just a cheap and underhanded way to play.
... In my most humble opinion, anyway.

if it's within the rules it's fair. i'd be happy to compete against you in a no double turns game or a sequential game.

What really annoys me are those "holders", if this can count as a holder, that start their turn, attack one place, and then sit there and don't do anything for like an hour or maybe even the whole day! and its not even like they're the last person to play before the next round or anything... I just want to see what the hell they'll do.. In this game I'm playing now I already finished my turn but this guy's annoying me cuz he just wont' end his damn turn! if you're gonna start your turn then end it too!

ah yeh, i was afraid of this. i guess the title of this thread wasn't obvious enough for anyone other than clear thinking adults. i'd be happy to join all of you in the "pros & cons of holding" thread, or the "i hate holders" thread, or the "ooh, i can tell you held b4" thread, or "holders have feelings too" thread, or darkfire's fav "just hold me you big hairy bear of a man" thread.... all kidding aside, at least darkfire was able to see that this thread was veering off course.

ha, well I mean some people just want to let off some steam or get their thoughts out about this and since the topic started you might as well add your 2 cents here as opposed to starting some new discussion or talking about it in an unrelated discussion...

... I mean, think about it - WHY hold? The resons are obvious.
<holder scenario>
... I just played my turn and I control all of Africa... barely. If that guy up in Europe should want to place armies in Southern Europe and invade, I'm basically screwed. But if that player in Brazil gets ambitious I'll be in trouble there, too. What to do? What to do?
... I know! I'll just go to bed and come back in the AM when I KNOW everyone will be chompin' at the bit to play, since I never ended my turn. Then I'll click End Fortifications, wait about 20 seconds for the first sucker to start playing and WHAM! I got the European bonus plus my norm to kick their butts!
.... Cause I can't play a straight game.
</ holder scenario>
... It's an abuse of the system? Well, a lot of people do it and Lack has more or less stated that it IS a strategic choice. So no, I wouldn't call it abuse. Anybody who wants a real game can always go with sequential.
... Sad, though, that the ranks of Conquer Club's Majors (highest ranking players) are rife with Double Turns Allowed Game Holders (with very notable exceptions, mind) who play newbies who don't know any better. Pity the new guys.
