Is it against the rules? Am I allowed to suicide into some other players to ensure someone else wins; this is a point loss dmg control thing lol

It’s like this; im in a game with not chance of winning, with one other semi-high rank, and some other very very low ranks. Am I allowed to suicide into the lower ranks to reduce the number of points I will inevitably lose? Lol

I read the rules and can’t see anything against it… So, is it?

While you may consider it a smart thing to do, being the course of action that results in a greater score... you will also gain the pure, unmitigated disdain of the vast majority of people on the site.

There's nothing about it in the rules, and sure, it's the logical thing to do. But I have to say that I'm not a fan of the practice.

Baiscally, it's a bit unsporting , gives the game to a player that might not really have deserved it on their own merits, proves that you take risk-points way too seriously, and a lot of players think it's a bit of a twattish thing to do so will consequentially foe you.

In other words, there's nothing stopping you from doing it. But I'd encourage you to refrain from the practice. After all, isn't it more important to be a good sportsman than to cling to a couple of arbitrary risk-units?

No - you are not allowed to - I've had lengthly discussions with the mods about this, including Twill. King Achillis has said it's a gross abuse of the rules, while Twill tends to more so think it's a gross abuse if it's done continually, although they won't nail you with any penalties for a single game.

Either way - it's a douchebag move. If a cook outplayed everyone else and wins, why shouldn't he deserve the win? Otherwise he'll stay a cook forever as everyone attempts to avoid point loss and kills him, and he'll get further and further away from having any possibility of winning.

I played in one game where a cook/cadet completely sodded my game up by attacking into me continously while allowing my main opposition to grow unheeded. I finally managed to convince the player of the futility of his strategy and led a three player alliance against the game leader (who was a middle-ranker). This was so succesful that we ended with me in the postion of either fighting it out with the cook from a losing position, or handing the game to the middle-ranker (by parking a stack in the middle of the cook's continent). I chose the latter option simply because I felt the cook didn't deserve the points.

I once observed a private complaining that higher-ranking players always ganged up on him. I didn't say anything at the time, but the player had chosen to join last in a 5 man classic (speed) where all the other players were lieutenants and above. It is all very well to go for that big win, but if you join a game out of your weight class you're liable to get hit hard and not always fairly. DM is right that points aren't that important (I've lost a hundred in the last few days and I am still feeling fine...for now!), but it should be obvious that no one wants to lose 50 points in a game where they were expecting to lose say 20-25 at the most. It becomes almost inevitable that there will be bias if four other players are standing to lose more if the much lower ranking player wins.

My point is that we must be realistic here. It would make far more sense to claim it should be an even playing field if every player loses evenly from the game. But they don't and therefore this kind of thing is going to happen and I am sure does happen a lot.

what you talk about here is not 'suicide' as such, because it is done without suiciding your own position - what you talk about is a bias which works both ways - a high ranker in a low ranking game is picked on and a low ranker in a high ranking game is picked on - for as long as we have points on this site that will go on, whether we like it or not, but it evens out.

That is a good point, altho in this game the lower ranks arnt playing too well, it just happens to be that the strong players have left them alone, giving them a chance if they ever stop fighting each other to stop the one person having his way with the rest of the board
