1. stop playing flat rate. too much luck
2. stop playing unlimited. too much luck
3. stop playing small maps. too much luck
4. stop playing 1v1s on these settings. way too much luck.

This is what I do to gain points, although I would say for you, play on these exact same settings. Since you steal 30 points of a lieutenant, you may as well just use your lower relative rank as an advantage.

In the long run though...

A 45% win ratio isn't that good for somebody who mostly plays 1v1 games.

If you're looking for quicker points, then multiplayer terminator games may help - you're more likely to come out with some points even if you don't win the game.

A guy in my office was driven slightly loopy playing exclusively 1vs1 games on CC. 300 odd games in 3 months and he rose to captain then a bad streak over 20 or so games sent him back to a sergeant.

I sit across from the guy at work and he literally spent 2 weeks just furious about dice, drops and luck.

He retired from CC.

He's now over on Land Grab playing 6 and up sequential games and seems a lot happier with his Risk life.

My point? 1vs1? That way leads to madness my friend, madness! It also isn't really proper Risk.

I see you've joined some 8 man terminator games. Study the board carefully and try and judge the opposition's intentions.

1v1 games don't really make much sense to play...they are all about your drop and your dice, which are random elements. it's like playing war.

1v1s are great if you are good enough at them and avoid the bad maps for 1v1 (of which there are alot)

i dont know what maps you are talking about , but i am talking about all the normal maps with 24+ territories (not special rules like pearl harbor, etc). There is no real strategy to be "good" at - all you do is fight down the other guy as much as you can every turn, until you have no more >50% win-probability matchups. There is virtually no critical thinking necessary.

i have to disagree there is some, like how can people have win %s above 70 on maps in 1v1 if its so easy. You can easily make it to major by playing 1v1s on good maps like bamboo for the normal ones and waterloo and supermax for the more difficult ones
