British Isles - Scotland always wins

Postby Karl_XII on Sat Nov 01, 2008 12:05 pm

I've played the British Isles map now for some time. The one who gets Scotland ALWAYS wins. Have you other experiences?

Scotland, even though you need to defend your southern border to North England, while you cannot attack North England (except through Isle of Man) and you have two entry points to Ireland (one shared with North England) seem to be what you need to win. South England seems too difficult to control, with entry points from three other "continents". Land's End is something many go for, but only to find themselves lost in the end.

What do you think of the British Isles map?

It's a conspiracy!

Nah, normally whoever holds Lands End has an advantage... though if you can take the whole of scotland and Ireland you're quite well off normally. As bonus of 10 with only 3 borders to protect.

I would NOT use the word never or always, I have won from every starting position before on that map (as I am sure many have), although some places like every map are more favorable then others-lands end is usually favorable, depends on the drop. Just because one has never experienced something does not mean it can or does not happen. now, if you are saying scott-land always wins, well that is a little more accurate then your prior one. :D cheerio's

You're right. I shoudn't say "always". I meant "the one who has taken Scotland has so far always one in the games I've played on this map." Right now I hold Land's End. No one has yet to take Scotland. Let's see if I can break this bad habit.

With Scotland and Ireland, defending three areas and getting ten in bonus, that sure gives you the upper hand. Land's End and Wales gives you only five in total. North England and South England seem difficult to hold early in the game.

But I'll definitely give it a try from other starting positions.

Wales is a difficult start, as you get caught between whoever gets Scotland and whoever gets Lands End. You can expand from Wales into Ireland easily, but you're bound to meet some resistance from The North...

I've just signed up for about 15 trips games on this map, 6 of which are finished. I can tell you that Lands End is a good bonus, usually the easiest to get, Scotland has never been taken to beat us, and we've even secured Ireland and Wales first and worked outwards from there. Scotland is decent, but there's plenty of attack routes in, and your opponents have to be pretty complacent to let you build to the point that you're unchallenged once you get it.
