I'm starting to see why people...

... point dump.

The higher your score the less fun this game is:

You gain 4-15 pts for a win lose 30-80 for a loss.
Your rank almost never changes, just flows with your dice.
Once you get to major/colonel you cant play 1v1s to gain rank anymore, unless you nub farm (lame), or play FS (kinda cheap, and fastest connection wins).

Someone give me a reason to keep trying, something to go for, my ranks not going anywhere lol

little experiment ... i'll play you a couple of games 1v1 rt and we see where we end up ... not exactly sure of the point, but hey let's give it a go?
you set the map and settings (no fs or aor), and whoever loses decides the rematch?

You said the problem yourself: 1v1. Certain game types have point limits, simple as that. If you are interested in obtaining a higher score you will likely have to expand your horizons.

i think the limit for 1v1 is colonel lol, got there once and against the avarage oponet i had to win like 4/5 games not to lose points lol

i also like 6-8player seq esc games but its not as fun :(

Then play just to play. Play for win % and not score. Play for a certain goal. Play a tournament.

The scores are incentive and they are bragging rights, but ultimately, it's the game, isn't it?

I obviously stopped caring about my score a while ago (at one point I was in the top 10...when there were only about 500 people on the site...but still!). When I stopped caring about score and started caring about just the "game", everything became much more relaxed and to be honest, more fun.

Don't point dump, it's stupid (and will get your account frozen), just play to have fun. If your points drop over time, then your points drop, but you'll have more fun...I hope :)

In those bygone days, top 10 meant getting around 800 points didn't it?

Well, the reason that the score is proportional to your enemy is because your rank's not really supposed to go anywhere... If your rank is stationary, that means your skill is more or less stationary, not that you've become worse.

I only care about points so I get to play certain games. A while ago it was 2000+ games. Now it's 2500+ games. I enjoy escalating and there's plenty of them to be found in their respective callout forum threads. It's about competing against people more likely at or above your skill level. I think these type of games are more fun. I don't see how beating up on people that are below your skill level is fun. Challenges are fun right?

Challenge people. I had a great time when I called out Marvaddin back when he was one of the top dogs.

Play a tourney!

I had been avoiding them for a while because I was worried about putting my points into a pool with generally lower ranked opponents. Now I'm playing to have fun again and my score is higher than ever.

to the bold part:
You don't need faster connection than your opponent to win. Sure, Clickable Maps is almost a requirement, besides from that. It doesnt matter really. Most of my wins in FS speed is simply becuase i wait until my opponent does his move to the after that make my own. But of course, my quite good connection gives me an advantage against some.

Great suggestion, tourney are loads of fun. Gives the games that extra goal to win them :)

Try out some settings and maps that you haven't before. Instead of trying to win the website, look at each individual game and try to win those.

Yes but im in Aus with a sub par ISP even with CM im at a constant disadvantage. Im sure its not a big problem for people with the average connection, but its hell for me.

Also, played in one once and some people must have no lag what so ever, you can be wiped before you deploy sometimes, its just another factor that i cant control...

Guess im just gonna have to give up the 1v1s if i want to get a rank above colonel, you juust lose too many points for the odd bad game :(

Might enter some more large player, seq, esc games.

No rational logic... exists here. Is this a conceptual post and we're supposed to guess what inspired you towards this way of thinking? There are no good reasons to point dump and score has never effected the entertainment value of a well played game.

Cundy wrote:Someone give me a reason to keep trying, something to go for, my ranks not going anywhere lol

I suggest that you forget about points/rank and make an effort to just enjoy playing... for the fun of it.

It may see to amaze you that i flew through Brigadier by playing 1 on 1 feudal wars (then i went back down to Brigadier).

Once you get to major/colonel is when real skill starts pouring in, once you get to Brigadier or General is when the dice really start to bite you. If you want to get any better from major/colonel then you will need real skill.

Also, i Live in NZ which has quite a slow internet connection to the CC servers seeing as we are the most furtherest or one of the most furtherest away to the server. So don't tell me that the fastest connection always wins, i take territories at 2 seconds per territory on average days with a slow connection, so only a fast mind is needed. There is nothing cheap about freestyle.

I also play seq escalating games occasionally and i don't fine them too hard to win.

The only reason why you won't go up once you get high is because you don't have the skill too.

You mean FS 1v1s, which kind of proves my point…

Thats not too bad a connection, mine ranges from 2 seconds per attack to sometimes (out of the blue) up to 10seconds... it is not just my location, im on very random wireless broadband.

Yeah sure its all fair when there isn't a huge difference in connection speed. I agree it does take a quick mind, and a fair bit of experience to be good. But if my internet isn't running at its best or just lags out for 5-20seconds i lose.

I dont think its that i dont have the skill, i win more than my fair share of big games. Its just that i chose to play the more dice dependent games (seq, 1v1)

1v1 used to be where i gained most of my points. But now, at a higher rank its where most of them go... If i want a higher rank i will have to give up the games i enjoy the most (kind of annoying)

I tried that. Some low rank joined, then attacks random neutrals every single round (these neutrals are right next to my territories, which are weaker, and they give him no bonus at all). I lost because he got perfect dice all the time, and I could not win 6 v 1s. The territory bonus he got himself through 4 v 3, then that same 3 v 3 attacks killed me after 4 rounds of it.

i played to get points the the first 10 games or so. then i got over it and just wanted to play for the sake of playing.

sure in a cook now - but i used to be a serg. albeit for a few days. and not the say that it was an overly impressive rank.

certain things got in the way of my playig lately too but thats life - i'll get back into the swing of it eventually. its just a game.

maybe u just need a hug?

-G

ps - we've played before i think. and u probably beat me. or maybe not. i dot really have a point anymore. water is essential to life.
