no notice of a new round beginning

Postby musicalmaven on Fri Nov 14, 2008 12:16 am

i have a complaint.
i was playing a game, #3574888. round 8 ended at 9:53. the next player to take a turn took it at 14:55.
i was on line at 11:00 and 13:00 and played a number of games, including #3504549, #3504559 and 3532400, but the game in question, #3574888, never came up as being available.
it is not the first time this has happened, and each time the games were over before i knew that a new round had begun. this is the first time i've a) taken the time to write about it, and b) took the time to look up the other games to show that i was on line during the time frame involved.
i have enough impossibly bad luck with the dice, i don't need to lose games because i never get notified that a new round is ready to be played.
i would appreciate an explanation how 5 hours can go by without notification.

You get a notification when it's your turn. Since you were playing a sequential game, the beginning of a round does not always signify a new turn for you - just for the player who started the game. Rest assured you will be notified when you can play.... if you wish to check in on the game at other important times (such as the start of a new round), you can use a very nice game sorter that chipv whipped up in the Add-ons forum.

It was never your turn in round 9... The only notification settings are:
Notify me when...
It's my turn in a casual game (by email)
It's my opening turn in a casual game (by email)
A speed game begins (by private message)

Notice there's no "A new round has begun"?

hector, maybe i wasn't clear. when a new round begins, the game posts as being available for play - your name is highlighted and a green square appears. this is what i mean by being notified - i know there is no e-mail, or other form of notification of a new round.
as i mentioned - it isn't the first time this has happened, but this time i took the time to show that i had been on-line, played other games, but the game in question never came up as available.
obviously i did not go down the list of my games to see how many more players still had time left in round 8 ( i may have, but i certainly did not make note of it), so i can't tell you that the game supposedly was still holding for one more player before the 24 hours were up, but, in fact for 5 hours the game was sitting waiting for the players to go after the last player went in round 8 and the game never appeared on my list of games ready for play.
i would still like someone to explain what happened.

Ya, it's because:
2008-11-08 08:53:57 - Incrementing game to round 9
2008-11-08 13:55:56 - sure receives 2 troops for holding Orange Octagons
... sure takes his turn ...
2008-11-08 14:01:36 - sure won the game

It was never your turn. You didn't have a chance to take your turn in round nine because it was never your turn in round 9. Ever.
