what is the point?

For some it's for a tactical advantage on freestyle. If you are about to take your turns and your opponents *don't appear* to be on, you would be generally have a better turn. If they really are on, but you don't think they are and begin your turn, they can come on and clean house (if they are winning the game at that point, that is).

Others just don't want people to get into PM battles with them if they disagree with a post they made, and if they *aren't on* then that person will probably be less likely to PM them.

A lot of the mods/admins will go into hidden status at times to either A) get work done without having to immediately respond to other PMs they receive while they are working or B) if they just want to relax and take a couple turns without anybody asking them for help (yes, sometimes we want to just take our turns and get off :( )

Nope, if your status is hidden and your friend is online it doesn't show them as online in your friend's list, either.

i get about 5 less pms a day this way myself... my double A's make it easy to see that im on... and while people who really need me pm me when they do...many pm me just because they see me

its also beneficial in freestyle games to be anonymous

what you guys have said explains why mods and casual freestyle players that want to trick their opponents have their status hidden

but loads of player have there status hidden and i dont think there are that many players that are mods or are casual freestyle players that want to trick their opponents or both

 Very nice mpjh, very nice ;)

I remember hiding mine for awhile, so people would stop bugging me to play speed game, but I show online again. Even though some people have suggested I hide it so I don't get bothered all the time ;)
