Bizarre Ways to Play

When I first played RISK so many eons ago, some guy from the neighborhood taught us the game. I guess he never bothered to actually read the rules because this is how we (about 5 of us) played:

1. The defender got to rolls 3 dice.
2. You got your armies AT THE END OF YOUR TURN !
3. You could HIDE YOUR CARDS.

Needless to say, it took a whole weekend for the 5 of us to play one game.

I can't remember if we played flat or escalating but I imagine it was flat.

We still had a lot of fun.

It's all about attitude.

LOL Our games used to last for days as well, and obviously we had to leave the board set up at one dudes house...and we did catch the guy cheating by putting extra men on his territories  , so after that we had to count all our armies before we left :^o

Sometimes, we would play with "nukes". If the attacker rolled 3-of-a-kind, we would draw a card at random, and "nuke" the territorry. Some of the armies there could be saved via some sort of dice rolling (forget exactly), and for the rest of the game the nuked area could be crossed with 50% casualties. Sometimes we would make it so that triple sixes would give the attacker the choice of where they wanted to nuke. It made for some interesting gameplay.

The set we had was with the little plastic squares and rounded triangular shapes for 10 armies. We named them 'piglets'. As my friends and I really did not know about rolling up sets etc, we would sit there building huge armies. As we kept running out of 'piglets' I asked my Father if he could not get some made at the tool and die factory he owned, sure enough, one night when I was home from school on holidays he came home with a bag stuffed full of extra, correctly dyed 'piglets' I seem to recall around 250 of each. I returned to School after the hols proudly bearing the new additions to the game we posessed.

Naturally, as is the way of things we would then just let the armies get even larger. Then instead of rolling the dice for single armies we would indulge in 'piglet' warfare. After about 4 hours of playing and hundreds of these verminous little pieces of plastic stacked up on territories the cry would go up "Piglet warfare!" This meant that instead of losing 1 or 2 armies dependant on the dice one would lose 1 or 2 piglets/10 or 20 armies.

On reflection, I never really understood why we did that, but it would while away a Sunday afternoon and as long as we weren't caught, the company, the smokes (especially them as we were fined if caught) and the discourse made up for what was in essence a way of extending the game. I suppose that was the real objective.

Yeah, each continent on the original was worth a certain amount of clothing. If I hold asia at the start of my turn, you take off 4 articles of clothing, europe and NA are worth 3, africa worth 2, and SA and aussie worth 1. And at the beginning of your turn, the number of territories you own divided by 3 gives you both armies to deploy, and articles of clothing to put back on. Socks are worth 1 each, unlike other games that make them one article.

I understand....the house we used to play all the time , his father would come home and say"GET THIS FUCKIN GAME OFF MY TABLE NOW" than we would alter the rules and suicide till someone wins....(maybe there should be a forfeit/daddy said button), I at least now can remember the good ole days, rollin poomers, drinkin Carlsberg Gold, and feeling teenage titties [-X

Before the game started each person would write a territory of their choice down on a piece of paper, at any time during the game we could bust out our piece of paper and annihilate that territory.

Defender should only be allowed 2 against the attackers 3 , since a tie is awarded to the defender...The version the OP mentioned, must of been no ties?

we all know the only teenage titties you felt were Coop's... poor kid had a thyroid problem back in the day that caused him to gain weight at an unexplainable rate...

Ah, so that's why some of the fat boys at school were so inexplicably popular... I had no idea.
