Why was idea rejected?

Postby Grifter on Fri Dec 12, 2008 10:33 pm

I saw an idea for "Unlimited Adjacent Fortification" was rejected but the topic thread is gone. I am curious why it was rejected

Was it for technical reason ie. not sure how to implement? Was there not enough interest in it?

I like the idea. To make it work I would suggest that once a player moves armies into a territories then s/he cannot move out of it. To keep track of this the number that is displayed can be bold or use a different font to show that no moves can be done out of it. This means that the player has to plan ahead how they want to fortify. They could move from multiple territories into one or from one into multiple. They just can't ripple the moves.

If there is an appetite to revisit this then I will make an official post

1. Very hard to code.
2. The entire point of adjacent fortification is to make the deployment and attacks more important. You need to think ahead. That gets rid of the whole point of it.

because thjat unlimited but tedious.
if i want to get my troops from point A to Point D i have to
reinforce Point B with 5 from Point A
reinforce Point C with 5 from Point B
reinforce Point D with 5 from Point C
its works like unlimited but just requires u to be tedious about it

That is not the way it would work. If you reinforce from A to B then you cannot reinforce from B to C. Once you move troops into a territory then you can no longer move out. You could do:
  • Move from C to D
  • Move from B to C
  • Move from A to B
but not the reverse order. This still requires planning especially the order in which you move. You can move an entire army but only 1 territory at a time.

To help keep track of which territories are frozen the number displayed on the map could be changed to a bold or italic font.

This is how real risk is played sometimes. Not to mention the fact that it's the most "realistic" movement pattern.

We've got unlimited spaces for unlimited territories, unlimited spaces for one territory, and one space for one territory. The last logical step is one space for unlimited territories (e.g. your idea).

You should call it "Shifted" "Adjusted" or "Tweaked" instead of "Unlimited Adjacent", though, for brevity's sake. ;)
