Ratings Rant

No, this is not a rant about how crap the ratings system is - in fact I think it's great. The new ratings system came into effect shortly after I joined CC.
What puzzles me is that we have a really good tool for rating people and it's misused. I wrote on my wall that I generally leave people four stars which means 'above average' if they played a decent game. I constantly get asked by players why I left only four stars when they did nothing wrong.
Five stars means 'excellent.' How many players have played an 'excellent' game? I know I've played in total maybe a handful. the rest were pretty average. But five stars has come to mean "didn't eff up."
This makes a lot of the ratings system redundant, especially because losing triggers (sometimes) a one star rating esp. from people like codeblue0108. It leaves not much room to really give people an 'excellent' rating for having played an 'excellent' game.
Most players should probably have a rating of around 3.5 or something, not 4.5. I have a totally undeserved rating of 4.8.
Anyway, just food for though.
