World Economy Cities

Well, I started building a 'World Economy Cities' map. Please share your thoughts!
This is my first attempt. The aim is to make a map with the biggest economical cities.
I know there are already world maps, city maps,.. But this one is aiming for the leading economical cities worldwide.
It is based on the attempts to define, categorize, and rank global cities made by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC), mixed with the top 30 results of the Foreign Policy's 2008 Global cities index (business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political engagement).

A lot of European cities are missing, since there wasn't enough place on the map (Amsterdam, Dublin, Lisbao, Milan, Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, Zurich) together with Istanbul. It would be too hectic anyway..

As said before: this is my first attempt, I'm still brainstorming about the connections between the cities.. The idea now is to have free traffic between cities of the same colour origin, the blue lines show the connections with other continents.. Thus..: >STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION<

Comments are very well appreciated, thanks!
With kind regards,
Joe

Hi,

First. I'd use a Peters map: http://www.mapland.com.au/cartimages/PetersWorldMap.jpg. I think it would work better for your purposes. Second, I'd certainly add a few African cities, like Cape Town, Johannesburg, Cairo, Lagos, Nairobi.

Good luck!

Hi Raskholnikov,

First of all: thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm not sure about the African countries though.. Ofcourse they could add an extra touch to the map, but if we're being honest they're not really strong global economic cities, and that's what I'm aiming for.. Not just another world map..

I'm not sure about the connections between the countries though.. Can someone please help? Thanks! ;)

Now there are 36 cities,
and 6 'continents' which can give extra troops:
- North America (5 extra)
- South America (4 extra)
- Europe (Moscow included) (6 extra)
- Asia (6 extra)
- Oceania (4 extra)

You've got a fairly promising map going already. The first thing that strikes me about it is that the regions are very unevenly distributed...geography often needs to be stretched a little to make a good map.
As you already realise, you need something to connect the regions together. Again, you may want to spread some of them out...I mean, you'll have a hard time drawing connections between Washington/New York/Toronto etc.

You should also be aware that the Classic Revamp is based on the same principle of having cities across the world and that the CC community never seem to want more than one of anything.

That Classic Revamp map is indeed awesome.. Although my idea is more aimed on 'The businessmen travelling around the world and conquering the major economical cities' than just on cities: in the end, it wouldn't make much difference in the game play.. So you are right, no need for another one. We will go back to the brainstorm room :)

[Moved]

This map has been moved into the Ideas subforum, as it does not meet the criteria for a Working Draft:

Drafting Room Guidelines

To be considered a Working Draft a project must be more than just an idea; a Draft should have a clear thematic focus, a plan for how the gameplay will work, and a basic image which should include:
    1. Territory Labels - temporary names or numbers will suffice, and are always open to change.
    2. Borders/Paths/Impassables - it should be made clear where territories do/do not connect.
    3. Bonus Areas - where combinations/groups of territories will award a bonus, this should be indicated on the map.
    4. Legend - speculative bonus values and explanations of any attack rules or gameplay features.
Draft images should not be larger than 630x600px (small image) or 840x800px (large image).
