Other interesting research recently from the NBER:

Love you too, saxi..

Seriously, its not that all economics is wrong, its that ...

... the research with results I don't like is wrong.

_sabotage_ wrote:You are absolutely right, it was all the democrats. The republicans are honest and god-fearing. They want us all to be rich so they have more members at their country clubs and competition for their kids to get into good schools and fight for good jobs.

Did you ever think that both parties are happy as hell? Did you ever think that the rich keep getting richer, have more and more influence on our elections and democratic process?

Why do you post all of this? What's your incentive? I would actually be happy if the republicans won every election just so that people don't get so damn confused and blame all the lose of jobs, the lose of opportunity, the lose of rights on the differing parties but held the government as a whole accountable. Is that why you want the republicans to be the perennial leaders of the country, so that we can actual hold someone responsible and not get caught up in this he said she said bs?

That's Commie talk!

and "statistics prove that a bed is the most dangerous place to be"... because more people die there than anywhere else.

Economics can be quite true, but still distort if the data is not placed in the appropriate context (as can any analysis/data)

Anyway, Merry Christmas. Tell Esmerelda I fully enjoyed the clam chowder she recommended when I was out in CA. Too bad you folks were too busy to join us! ;)

do you give the crash of real estate, and the loss of trillions of dollars, any credit for the downfall of the economy?

well, here is a study that suggests otherwise. In fact, Republicans were the only one's warning about real estate...Democrats said, like you say, that they were stupid and crazy. Except now we know who was right, and who was wrong

please, watch this

are you saying Democrats did not vote for it? (they ALL did, except probably Dennis Kucinich)

Dems get the blame for real estate AND joint blame for the wars

You know, ever since I switched to Google Chrome, my web browser cries at every liberal post. So I'll just correct all these red lines and make it happy. ;)

wikipedia wrote:The costs of the 2003-2010 Iraq War are often contested, as academics and critics have unearthed many hidden costs not represented in official estimates. The most recent major report on these costs come from Brown University in the form of the Costs of War project, which said the total for wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan is at least $3.2-4 trillion.

Factcheck.org wrote:It’s true that Obama “inherited the biggest deficit in our history,” as he said on CBS. By the time Obama took office in January 2009, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office had already estimated that increased spending and decreased revenues would result in a $1.2 trillion deficit for fiscal year 2009, which began Oct. 1, 2008. In a detailed analysis of fiscal year 2009, we found that Obama was responsible for adding at most $203 billion to the deficit, which in the end topped $1.4 trillion that year.

But that was just the first of four years of trillion-plus deficits. The last three budgets fall squarely under Obama. And, during that time, the federal government ran up deficits of $1.3 trillion in 2010, $1.3 trillion in 2011, and about $1.2 trillion in the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30 — for a total of nearly $5.2 trillion in deficit spending.

Note that Obama's deficit spending in 2010-2011 is the same number as the spending on the wars you apparently love to cite ad nauseum. Yet this whole mess is solely Bush's fault.

Clearly deficits are bad. But they are not the same type of bad as a major recession. The economic collapse of 2008 was not caused by "2 useless wars."
