$100,000 in parking fines

Postby Agent 86 on Sat Apr 13, 2013 1:03 pm

A CHICAGO woman is trying to get out of paying a parking fine that has snowballed to $US105,000. The car was left for nearly three years in a parking lot at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Jennifer Fitzgerald filed a lawsuit last year against the city over the $US105,000 worth of tickets that police piled up on her car.
judge dismissed the lawsuit on Wednesday and pressed the parties to try harder to reach a settlement. Ms Fitzgerald says she should not be held responsible for the fine because her ex-boyfriend abandoned the car in an employee parking lot at the airport. She says the car is only worth about $US600.

How many tickets did the police issue, revenue raising anyone?

Not revenue raising, but multiple lack of responsibility. If that airport is like many lots, then parking is a premium. That is why the fines, but to let this go 3 years is a bit much by ALL involved. She should have gotten it or transferred the title. It should have been towed after a month or two, and then sold when not collected, etc. Basically just a bunch of people being stupid.

My buddy works at fedex and a car has been in that lot for 5 years. They plow around it. No one claims to own it that still works there. It still sits.

So the city can keep track of parking infractions over the course of three years, but can't be bothered to take 10 mins to tow a car to the impound lot.

If I was the manager there, I would have had it towed after 3 days.
