Past/Present/Future

Postby / on Sun Apr 14, 2013 5:16 pm

For example; pretend a long term serial killer in your area has just been caught. Would your immediate reaction fit into any of the three views, or identify closely with any time oriented mindset?

Past: "I'm glad all those who have been harmed over the years can finally get the justice they deserve."

Present: "Now I can go out without worrying so much about getting stabbed."

Future: "We need to plan for this, so that it can be stopped faster next time."

Interesting topic. Personally I tend to be an in the moment thinker, which isn't always the best, but yeah lol. Im interested to see what the majority thinks about.

Unless I am personally involved I tend not to care about the past as you describe it. Or at least, it would not be the thing that would occur to me once I hear the guy has been caught. Neither would I be very worried about the future; we have already "won", the guy is dead, the first thing I'd do is be happy about nobody running the risk of getting stabbed by him any more.

Interesting.

I dont care about the past; to me the past is to be learned from, not cared about. If some smart dude said something smart years ago, who gives a f*ck? All I care about is what was it they said.

Present vs Future, I tend to think most people focus on present (in terms of my area of work anyway); so I personally specialise in looking forward to try and balance it out a bit.

of the three options, i think i would go with the "present"

the future one is hopelessly idealistic and the past one is stupid.

I think mostly future and a little past. I'm not really a present thinker (not sure what that says about me).
