If it retains the people's faith in me and my Political Party, then sure!, it's a small price to pay.

A lot of people would probably like that. A few jerks are ruining it for the rest of us.

oh yes... yes it would... and who would foot the bill hmmm? the people of a country who are tired of paying for wars that have little to do with them? as I said, not very realistic, just a pipe dream

I will also agree that, being selfish for a change and not wanting to spend money on them is not horrible. Especially with the current economic climate at home.

Being protective of young soldiers that could end up dying with little or no positive effect yet potentially cause celebration by the bad guys. Should basically be considered essential.

strange, as I'm pretty sure my first deployment out here was well before Obama entered office...

Oh sure, without a doubt, sir. Bush starts, Obama continues. The US will continue dumping money and lives into that country for awhile. "We cannot cut and run." "We must support our Allies." "The fight against International Terrorism must continue." yada yada yada,

Similar marketing strategies of Bush and Obama require the spending of money and lives in other countries in order to increase one's chances of election/reelection. That's about all I was commenting on.

The war isn't won or lost, it simply grinds on. In Afghanistan there is no such thing as peace. And we have gotten ourselves caught up in the land that is known as "The Graveyard of Foreign Armies".

Alexander the Great conquered nearly everything he set his sights on, but there was one place he couldn't conquer, though he tried. The land now known as Afghanistan. He finally pacified the region by marrying a princess, a political/diplomatic solution. But even Alexander couldn't beat the Afghans through force of arms. And we ain't got any Alexander's in the US.

Such if the folly of bringing democracy with the bayonet.

is a single bomb enough to say whether or not a war is won? (aside from nuclear ones I should say)

Sounds a little arrogant to say it's been won when they still have troops there.

"we're winning" and "we've won" are not the same things either. if you're winning a game, do you stand up and walk away? no, you stay and finish it
