I have a 360 too, and I really enjoy it. But the Xbox 1 just doesn't work for me (and going by 99% of the posts on the internet), and most other people as well. Including longtime Xbox owners.thegreekdog wrote:I'm not familiar enough with either of these systems to make an educated choice. Semi-related - I can download games to my X-Box 360. Do we think this is the wave of the future? Will conventional gaming systems take the place of the personal computer (for entertainment), television, and radio? Or is it already the wave of the present and I'm just old?

Really, that's only Indie games, Minecraft, and older games that have been out for a longtime. New releases, like Halo and what not, are not released to download until like 5 years after their initial release, if ever.

I think Xbox is taking too big of a leap. People do want apps and extras.. However I'm not trying to purchase a Computer/TV/Game System
I just want to play my favorite games at an affordable price ( not 499)
This may cut off some of the casual gamers that won't use any of these functions.. Also the offline gamer who doesn't play online at all.

GreecePwns wrote:Just like the end of the previous generation, the end of this generation has found me very bored with my current consoles and playing more of the PC epics like Civ5 and XCOM, I can only be arsed to play the sports games like FIFA and 2K right now. And Mario Strikers with friends (the GC one, not the broken-as-all-hell Wii one).
The Xbox One sounds very creepy, with the rumored Big Brother-like video DRM and whatnot. Add to that the always-online requirements (Kinect is always on as well), the obscene price point after accounting for online fees, and the whole no-used-games thing, it just seems so ridiculously anti-user. I know I won't be getting that.
The PS4 looks better than it in every way it seems. Even when it comes to games the only thing it is missing is the Microsoft exclusives which I can live without. The online fees for PS4 will actually be less than the ones that exist for Xbox 360 now.
As for Nintendo, the Wii U may not have the hardware but the gap between it and these is much smaller than the gap between the Wii and the PS3/360. It is also much cheaper than the other two consoles. It has free online play and the unique control, which while clunky-looking actually feels natural in your hands, almost like a regular control. But most importantly the games sound fantastic! Wonderful 101, Super Smash, Bayonetta 2, and Mario Kart 8 all look like great fun.
I will also take a "wait and see" approach on the Ouya, hoping that the game selection justifies the purchase.
So in reality its either Wii U or PS4 for me this generation.

RTS specifically is really hard to do on a console. Halo Wars was an honestly decent attempt, but the micromanagement required for some of the more popular PC RTSs just can't be done with a remote (perhaps it can on the Wii U gamepad).
Turn based games do appear on consoles but mostly in the form of RPG's, the PC ones just happen to be much, much better IMO.
