What would you do with 500 Million Dollars?

i would buy an island with a volcano to create a secret base (with a shark tank to throw in unloyal people and lots cool gadgets), raise a militia (with ridiculous uniforms) and point a super badass lazer to ge rid of the ozone crust. I'm not sure I'd have enough with 500 mills though. I might need to raise funds with a charity.

yeah, I would probably create my own charity and invest all in it get funds for my project.

Give my family a million each, but make sure the kids can only get enough to get through college (or pay medical expenses) until they have graduated and worked a few years supporting themselves.

Beyond that, I would begin a charter or private school that uses practical experience as the primary means of teaching, set up so that it operates with a portion of the interest from an endowment/foundation. As money accrues, I would expand to other areas.

It would be a high academic program, but geared towards kids who don't learn well in the traditional setting or who would learn better in a more "hands on" setting.

In most areas, a farm would be the basis, but in some places the kids might take in dogs for deployed soldiers, train seeing eye dogs or participate in other projects. It would have a small "forest" with native trees and other plants as a living biology classroom, along with an area for non-native plants for experimentation and perhaps operating a working (selling) garden/greenhouse.

In addition to the heavy outdoor/work emphasis, It would include music and sign language, a foreign language if possible. Mostly, it would be a "day" school, though a few places might be made for kids from out of the area.

Actually, with 500 million, I could start quite a few of those schools, with slightly different emphasis depending on the area. (crops grown would vary, for example). I could start one for about 200K to begin, though that would mean requiring some payment or being certified as a charter school with state funding.

I guess I'm much more selfish than Andy. If I have the money I'm personally going to the moon. I don't care about pictures. I want to throw things really far and make videos of me jumping high and wiping out wearing a funny outfit.

Nah, have the best of the best to develop random dice...500million yah we have true random dice. The other 499, 999million buy lots' of beer and contemplate for a while how I can help humankind. That would be me. 500 Million is kind of the low-end for human space exploration. I think you could go to the Moon with that money, but probably not Mars or beyond.
