Its an open memorial.... In the middle of a city, which doesn't need to even be barricaded. I mean I wonder just how much they spent on employees to actually set up and repair those barriers..... What a waste of time. And why would you normally notify the Park Service to visit an open memorial? That and these are regular flights. They happen on a routine basis for veterans. (who are terminally ill, or extremely old).

Why do people have to have the government's permission to assemble?

And today, the veterans have taken those barricades from the WW2 memorial and relocated them to the White House. Good for them!

Just goes to show that they know who is to blame for all of this nonsense.

If the Park Service is closing its sites as a result of the shutdown then it would make sense to ask in advance if you plan to visit one anyway. Otherwise you might turn up and find that the place you wish to visit has been closed.

In any case, the veterans 'easily' had the barriers removed when they turned up. So why does anyone care? I imagine that an unplanned protest about immigration reform would have been refused access to a closed public space, so in being allowed to flout the rules its actually the veterans who are receiving the special treatment here.

Your going to say no to war vets who are in there 70's/older? I mean these guys have seen some tough things, and were following gov. orders then the gov. says "hey you don't get to visit your own memorial (which if you watched the vid is obviously in an open space)!" That and the costs for paying the employees to actually set up those barriers?

I'm not saying I would say no to them. If I was on duty watching the barriers then I'd just open them to let the old guys in when they turned up. No sweat off my back. My point is that I don't understand how erecting a barrier around a memorial and then opening it when some war vets ask you too constitutes an action against war vets.
