Are you getting to the site but then the space where the video should be is black with a little smiley face and some writing? That's just a message asking you to turn off your ad blocker, it'll go away by itself if you wait.

And yeah, when the smog settles in it looks like a low cloud. Visibility can get down to a couple of hundred meters. It's not totally permanent (e.g. last night it was windy and so the air is clear this morning), and the summer is usually clearer, but during the winter in particular you can only ever see so far before it all goes grey. It is more often than not that I can't see the mountains that lie on the west and north edges of the city.

It's even visible by satellite:

Okay. Yeah, I can't read Chinese one bit.

Glad where I live, the only time visibility goes down that low is when we have snowstorms. We have wind all the time. Chicago may be the windy city, but Wyoming is the windy state. Helps keep the air clean. And the "big city warm weather" people away that tend to not be very nice people.

Since you asked about the smog, I made this 'before and after of the view from my old apartment. The left photo is just after a storm had passed over, so that's what totally clear air looks like.

I bet people wished storms were more common.

That's pretty rude to the drivers. They should've thrown the baby over a cliff--after making sure no one lives around the Splat Zone.

Or down a toilet. Last year a woman gave birth in the bathrooms of the factory where she worked, stuffed the baby down the toilet then went back to work

I guess all those posters of capitalists killing babies weren't just hyperbole, eh?

Whenever I read stories like that, it's hard to take, like the guy who stuffed his kids into bags a few years ago in Mobile and drowned them off a bridge, or the kids thrown out of high-rise windows in Hong Kong and China. That's messed up, man. And a lot of times, it's girls who are killed. When most parents are only allowed one child, they want boys.

The lady in the above story had two kids to kill, eh?
