Cosplay

Postby DaGip on Tue May 27, 2014 9:46 pm

The closest thing in my town to Cosplay is Halloween.

I have never participated in a Cosplay convention, but if there was a local one, I would probably come up with something.

I have a SPFX Thug Mask that was modified to resemble Gimli the Dwarf from Lord of the Rings:

And this is the actual Gimli makeup from LOTR. (I know, mine is bald, but a full head of hair would have been outlandishly expensive! I was going to wear a helmet anyway)

And this is my video (skip towards the end to see the mask in action, kind of a long video):

I don't know if anyone on this site is interested in this stuff, but I was hoping we could share ideas for costumes and share other Cosplay photos that we think is cool.

Holy crap this shit looks real! Never heard of that spfx thing before.
I honestly thought it was a real person on the first scroll.
How much is a mask like that worth? 1500$ is my wild guess.

This is awesome, love the beard braids, all very dwarven. The pipe finishes it off nicely as well.

Only problem is it reminds me of the Imperial Fists armour that I keep putting off working on... Cosplay is a lot of fun but man can it be a lot of work :P

That is a pretty close figure. And I left the eyebrows off and the head hair. The brows and head hair would have run me into the two grand range.

SPFX is a good mask, they do ultra realistic work (the ones you hear about in the news when people hold up banks or sneak on to jet planes from China). They are a bit thinner than other silicone masks, but it adds to the realism.

SPFX was the first silicone mask company, after that CFX Masks came about.

For a realistic choice that will definitely fool your family and friends, SPFX is the choice for you. If you want a more fantasy oriented mask for Halloween and stuff, CFX has a wider variety and their eyeholes are wider (if you want to fool people with a CFX mask, you probably are going to have to wear some makeup and some sunglasses).

There are other mask companies, but my opinion is that SPFX and CFX are the best silicone mask makers at the moment. CFX has better prices if you are looking that route.

I'm wondering, now that we are living in the ages of the CCTV... is it legal to wear such mask in the streets, and mostly, in a shop????

Depends on your intentions and store policy I imagine.

no it doesn't depend on my intentions. if my intentions are bad and i do something illegal it will not have anything to do with the mask.
I know for example that here in france you are not allowed to go to a convenience store with your helmet on, otherwise the cameras can't recognize you.

I wouldn't even try to enter a 7eleven with one of those on to buy a pack of cigarettes if it was for a bet. I think you could scare the shit out of the register guy and who knows what he could do to you.
