Neville Chamberlain?

Postby neanderpaul14 on Wed Mar 04, 2015 2:11 am

Thoughts?

Old fuddy duddy who meant well?

Betrayer of Europe?

Dove of peace at all costs?

19th century politician,Chamberlain, vs. 20th century tyrant, Hitler?

I highly respect him for his quest for "Peace in our Time", I am also incredibly horrified by the way he went about it.

Please discuss.

What there have been great attempts to write out of the historical record is how keen the right wing parties, the mainstream not just a few isolated voices, in many of the democracies were to accommodate with the Fascist regimes of Europe. Chamberlain exemplifies this.

Wilt Chamberlain never gave away the Sudetenland, well at least I don't think he did.

On the contrary, Wilt Chamberlain conquered the Sudetenland. Many times over.

Neville Chamberlain has unfairly taken the heat for a policy that was mutually agreed to by the French and British governments prior to Locarno.
In the words of Józef Beck, "Germany was officially asked to attack the east, in return for peace in the west."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locarno_Treaties#Effect

Locarno laid the groundwork for WWII. Everything between 1925 and 1939 was just the clockwork ticking.

By the way, I'm pretty sure there are muppets who look more like the portrait of Chamberlain that I posted, but unfortunately my muppet knowledge isn't sufficient to find them. Any and all contributions of good muppet pictures would be appreciated.

I think Chamberlain was horrified by the idea of a total war, which at certain extend was also inevitable, with or without Chamberlain in the picture.
