Propulsion Systems

Interesting story I read today. EM Drive that can operate in a vacuum. Could this be the ground work for StarTrek-esque Impulse Power and eventually Warp Drive? Who knows?

(Please notice that it is German scientists involved and not American...that is of course if you could possibly find an American scientist anywhere).

Story didn't have enough detail to form a meaningful opinion. It doesn't seem that there are any details, just one writers opinion of something somebody posted on a message board.

I'm always willing to be an optimist, but this is not promising.

I actually noticed this too, and wondered if the story held any real merit. I was going to keep searching around and find anything that explains more in depth on this report.

Here is the website I found and also a video of one of the EMP experiments:

I think the reason why the reporting doesn't hold any depth is because stuff like this is a bit over the majority of people's heads (even the one's reporting), so the the reporters keep the stories short and simple...just enough to spark an interest in the subject.

The story referenced this:

Which clearly says that it "cannot confirm or deny" in the abstract

The star trek impulse drive was essentially a pulsed fusion propulsion system. The star trek warp drive requires you to think outside of the propulsion box. From a practical standpoint the only thing that can travel faster than light is space. The only way something can exceed the speed of light is by going with the flow of a strong gravitational current (the equivalent of falling into a black hole).

The basic precursor to the warp engine, according to my trusty study of movies of the future should occur before the end of the year. For those of you who don't know this device, it's called a "hover board."
