Hulk Hogan: Inheriting Racism

Postby DaGip on Mon Aug 31, 2015 10:45 am

As you know, Hulk Hogan was banished and wiped out of the WWF. Kicked out because of angry racist banter he made years ago about his daughter's boyfriend.

After watching his emotional interview...I can't help to think that the Hulkster is still a good guy. People make mistakes. Should he be wiped from the memory of WWF for this? I think his humble truthfulness of character speaks volumes for him.

One comment that I agree with is when he spoke about "inheriting" racism from his environment.

Depending on where you grow up, the community around you can be racist and you wouldn't even know it. When I was a kid, the N-word was used normally everyday. We also used other racist slurs as well, not knowing that they were harmful. We just thought that they were just words. It seemed normal to us. Even when I lived in Arizona in my early twenties, I still took that naivety with me. One of my good friends was Hispanic and we would go have lunch together. One time I said the Sp--ck word (a reference to Mexicans), and my friend became silent. He sternly told me never to say that word around him ever again and that I was lucky it was him I said it around. He told me if it had been someone else from his neighborhood, I'd be killed.

That opened my eyes at that point, and I seriously rethought those offensive words I used.

I didn't mean to use them and have someone get offended. I didn't know that that word was offensive until that point. I apologized to my friend, and we still remain friends to this day.

So, I can see Hulk Hogan's point on inherited racism; however, he wasn't a teenager or a dumb kid in his early twenties...he was a grown man already retired from wrestling when he made the comments. Is he saying that he was naive towards those words all these years?

I agree but disagree with Hulk Hogan. He is really only showing his emotions now, because of his humiliation at being banned from the WWF.

Should he be let back in? This I don't know. It is the WWF's call.

What a load of horseshit. The world of professional sports has plenty of murderers, rapists, collection agents for the Mafia, gang leaders, and con artists, but (Oh! God!) let one one little racist creep in and we're all going to shit our collective pants.

It's a grotesque over-reaction. Racism is a character flaw, but it certainly doesn't rank up there with murder, rape, or any other serious felony. This man personified the WWF for over a decade. Writing him out of the story is bizarre to say the least.

Numbers game and commercialization. People don't care about murders or rapes in sports, but racism is much more an issue du jour.

There has to be a joke there somewhere.
No strike that, I could probably go on with a full 15 minute comedy segment of jokes on this line and I'm not a professional.

I used to work for Acclaim Entertainment, so I know a little about how much a YOU KNOW WHAT Vince McMahon could be.

Especially since being a YOU KNOW WHAT can be very profitable.

There's the danger of wearing "collective pants". As soon as one person shits in them, you've all got shit in your pants.

If collective pants are being worn, how does one opt out?

Yes. I believe some degree of sarcasm was implied in my comment.

Same as the affordable collective pants act. Just declare "I opt out" because you like the pants you have now.

BOOM! you're out.

Those guys were all flying on coke and steroids so that's no big surprise, really. She probably made fun of his raisin-sized testes and he did a flying elbow off the bannister of their bed.
