So, it turns out mr swickdick has been lying to us all this time, telling us that China has no moralistic legislation.

We went to a gay wedding today for the first time. An old friend of mine from high school was getting married to a Chinese man. This couple spends about 20% of their time in Toronto and about 80% of their time in Peking. So, we were sitting around talking, and my wife asked "If most of your life now is spent in China, why didn't you get married in China?"

The Chinese man answered without hesitation, "gay marriage is illegal in China, and with the cultural climate it is unlikely to change."

I don't see any motive for him to make that up, so I'll assume it's the truth. I guess China is not as free of moralistic judgement as we've been led to believe.

It's not fckn called 'Peking'. What are you, 120 years old? It's Beijing.

Gay marriage will be legalized in China, although maybe not very soon. Equalization is gathering quite a bit of support among younger and more urban people.

And in any case, I don't recall ever stating that China has no moralistic legislation.

On a side note, the shredded crispy duck you get in places like the UK is an insult to Beijing roast duck.

A Beijing roast is cut into juicy slices, not blitzed until it's bone dry and then shredded. It's also preceded by slices of crispy skin and fat that you dip in sugar, and followed by soup made with the carcass, not just cut into dry scraps and served as an amuse bouche.

'Peking' is an archaic way of writing 'Beijing' in Latin script. Even when people still commonly wrote 'Peking', they pronounced it as 'Beijing'.
