I know people in the military, one relative is a high ranking officer in the USMC. The Marines certainly do not take the threat of the Chinese lightly. I visited his post in the DC area and got to see the Marines, officers and enlisted guys up close. I even chatted with the #2 man (at the time) Gen. Joseph Dunford, in a small group "meeting" as he "worked the room" as a good politician would do. Great Guy, great hair, great uniform, kind words for us and for my daughter's in-laws, whose other son is still a Marine officer. We enjoyed the evening, but I hated the drive back. I think that Dunford was later the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for both Presidents Obama and Trump.
I am concerned the the current Chairman, Mark Milley, seems more concerned about social issues and less (it seems, based on his statements and sound bites) on Military Readiness. The progressive Democrats (under President Biden) want to use the Military as an instrument of social experimentation and not as much about their primary mission, it seems to me. The disaster of the withdraw from Afghanistan where 13 Marines (as I recall) were killed due largely to bad planning by their superiors in Wash., DC is a real SHAME and embarrassment. THANKS, Biden.
