1890s. That was really the years that set up the modern opera revolution.

This...a great era for music. 1971 was the year The Mahavishnu Orchestra came together. A jazz rock fusion that had some of the best musicians of all time. John McLaughlin, considered one of the best guitarists ever. Billy Cobham, arguably the best drummer ever. Jan Hammer on the keys and Jerry Goodman on violin.

I can remember hearing "Inner Mounting Flame" for the first time
and still have that original LP on vinyl and a CD of the remaster.
I was also fortunate to see King Crimson perform that same year.

My favorite is also the 90s. The best was 1965 to 1975 (per oVo).

I really love older jazz and blues that had such an impact
on so much music that has come after...

but the Mid 60's British Invasion of the States was HUGE!

This question immediately caused me to suffer from internal conflict. Every time I try to pick one, I start thinking about all the great music from other decades. There has been a ton of great music in every decade of the last 60-ish years (yes, even the 80's). In the end though, I agree with this:

The peak period for rock didn't correspond precisely to the 70's. Basically '68 to '78. I like other stuff well enough, but would be my favourite.

2020s, i just have a good feeling about that decade. In all honesty, music from 1965-1979 (i did think of stoppping at 75 but as a Pink Floyd fan, i simply cannot ignore the year that The Wall came out.) is my favorite era. The early 90s were great but he lattter 90s more mixed.

Oh the 80s how can I forget the decade that brought us Mr. Rickroll and Around The World? Okay so the 70s did bring us disco but at least disco brought us the BeeGees

I'd say something between 82-87. A great streak of great hit albuns from great hard rock/metal bands:

Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden 1982
Saints and Sinners - Whitesnake 1982
Love at First Sting - Scorpions 1984
Slayer - Reign in Blood 1986
Master of Puppets - Metallica 1986
Whitesnake - Whitesnake 1987

Wasn't born until 2 years later, but still great rocking songs! Image

I'm kind of surprised by the 90s list. Some interesting choices...

On the other hand, the soundtrack for the Lion King isn't a terrible choice. There were some real quality songs from that movie.
