The Mummy and The Mummy Returns

Postby muy_thaiguy on Thu Apr 02, 2015 10:21 am

They're not "All Time Great" movies, but even with the dated CGI, I still find them to be pretty fun movies to watch.

I don't count "The Dragon Emperor" as only 2 actors from the previous films returned for that film and it sucked.

The Scorpion King (staring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), while even cheesier than The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, is still fun in it's own right.

I think I saw the Scorpion King in theatres, with some buddies of mine since whatever other movie we had planned to see, we were late for I think. I don't remember much of the film, other than sand.

-----I liked The Mummy:Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Better than the other two. The Mummy 4 is going to take place, like the movie ended. Going to take on the Latin American mummies. I liked they went to China. Because there is noway you can replace..BORIS KARLOFF,In Egypt."THE MUMMY". Any movie now a days can't equal the acting skills. Of movies past. They replace plot lines with sorry ass explosions and the like. For the short attention spans of the poor minded people these days. No one can follow a movie plot anymore(there are none).ConfederateSS.out!(The Blue and Silver Rebellion). :)

I liked the first one. The second one was okay. Dragon Emperor should never be mentioned again. The Scorpion King I liked better than the second one but not nearly as much as the first.

Brendan Fraser seems like an unlikely, but likable, lead actor. He's goofy, but I like seeing him in popcorn flicks.

perennially re-run on shit tv channels. the original is surely vying for title of 'dvd everyone owns', alongside gladiator.

there's something about brendan fraser's face that makes me want to punch him repeatedly.

if you have recently rewatched any of the iterations of the mummy, it behooves you to, at the very least, feel a little ashamed of yourself.

I have watched the Mummy about 400 times. Usually in cases like this, one would expect that statement to be hyperbole. It is not, it is a conservative estimate based on the fact that I watched it once or twice a day every day for a year.

Give me a line from the movie, I can tell you the next line. Unfortunately, like so many movies, the second half sucks but the first half is so good, it does go on an all-time greatest half-movies, alongside the opening halves of Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket. I can't think of any movies that have good closing halves.

Sharknado 2 has probably the best closing half of all times.

I like these movies. Sure they're filled with clichés and cheesy phrases.
There are tons of better movies, but every now and then there is just that craving for these ever so common movies.
They don't awe you, they don't unusually excite you, but they do succeed in giving you an enjoyable time and coax a smile.

These movies are not supposed to become pieces of art, they're just the good old fashion family movie. Everybody enjoys these types of movies once in a while.

Goldeneye (the n64 game) wasn't intended to be a piece of art either. Sometimes these things just happen.

now, i loved a bit of goldeneye as much as the next guy (license to kill, pistols, facility, no oddjob on pain of being remorselessly ganged up on) - but you really are stretching it a bit to call it 'art'.
