Funnily enough I found myself reading about the shrinking cities of USA this week. I was amazed by detroit and how it grew rapidly from the early 20th century to have a population of 1.8M by the 50s. Then the changes in demographics followed by the constant fall in population. The population is now only 600k, a third of what it once was. There must be shit loads of empty properties and house prices must be cheap as. I got the feeling that nobody really wants to live there and it's simply been a transit city where people work make a few quid and go.
