I've found that advancing in levels isn't always helpful if certain skills aren't advanced. For example, I did a lot of mining and then forging, which increased my blacksmith skill to the point where I ended up gaining two levels just because of the increase of that minor skill. I then went to clear out a fort on behalf of some imperials and almost got my ass handed to me. I don't know for sure, but I suspect "bad guy" levels increase relative to your own level. So I was level 11 without the requisite increases in light armor, one-handed weapon, and destruction magic skills and got killed a few times.

In other news, this is one of the best games I've ever played.

Yeah, everything in Skyrim is "levelled", which is what you were referring to.

Not everything is leveled, but some places are. And some places are meant to be a little outside of your range, and some are meant to be quite within it...or easier. A La, most of the areas around Whiterun, where you start out via the main story line, aren't too difficult. But some areas outside as you expand get to be more so.

==========

I think I've had 1 decent epic encounter with a dragon, but playing as a stealthy ranger I don't think is very conducive to epic battles (with dragons or other things). So after I finish things up with the ranger, I'll no doubt try out a brute Orc, and then another more mage type character.

Orc would be cool, but I don't know about the lizard guy or the cat dude...

ImageImage

I mean, really? A lizard man and a cat dude? I wish Skyrim allowed the Dwarf as a race! They have Dwarven ruins and armor and stuff, but you can't play a Dwarf??? Why????

The funny thing about Skyrim is that they consider Dwarves another race of elves. Boy, Gimli would be pissed at this notion!

I think they have been killed off...but they were never the short, stocky type of humanoids that we all think of when we think of dwarves...

i get so fucking sick of all this dwemer shit... i must have spent 15 hours now crawling through generic dwemer dungeons doing the same shit over and over. it was cool at first but now it's just boring.

this game is just really badly designed in some ways... i'd take half the salary of the guys who designed this game and do a far better job.

I prefer the traditional Dwarf, but Skyrim should have allowed you to be one. You could have been like the last of your race in Skyrim. Your power could have been activating your Dwemer spider or something like that. Maybe next game creation will have the Dwemer race?

I have a theory about RPGs that may help you. If one plays an RPG (especially something like the Elder Scrolls) for lengthy periods of time on a daily basis, one becomes immune to the pleasures of the game. If you're like me and can only play for half an hour a day, it does not get repetitive.

Nice! I'm not sure yet whether I want to be a high-level imperial or the leader of the mages' guild. Right now I'm finding my voice (if you catch my drift -- don't want to let out any spoilers -- although, I'm probably way behind most people reading this thread).

This is probably pretty true. When I first got the game, I wanted to play non-stop, but I kept a decent pace instead. Now that pace is a little lower than it was previously, and I think it is for the best too.

I think it might be the opposite for playing the first person shooter games (at least on single player). I'm on the last level on Modern Warfare 2 and I have virtually no interest in continuing the game. That might not be generally applicable though.

I remember from Morrowind that there was one surviving Dwemer, you had to find him for part of a mission. He was infected with that disease (part of the main story) and was in this dungeon. But that's it. Although, from what I remember, most of the Dwemer had just disappeared. I wouldn't be too excited to play as one of them, but NPCs might be cool. They did have some cool constructs iirc, that you had to fight. If you could buy one of those, that'd be awesome.

I'm going through all the campaigns of the Call of Duty PC games. I'm playing World at War right now, which is WWII with the Modern Warfare (1) engine. Next in the series is MW2. I think it's funny how many people skip the campaigns and just play multiplayer. Personally, I like the campaigns. Multiplayer is fun, but it really can be kinda mind-numbing and very time-consuming.

Bought this game today (clocked 5 and a half hours already), I too was initially miffed by the lack of a Dwarf option, which has been a traditional option of mine in RPGs that I have played in the past so instead I chose to be a Redguard seeing as they are the most similar in constitution and wield a battleaxe, to frighten the crap out of anyone that gets in my way. f*ck playing as one of those Khaijits. I did have a random confrontation with one of those lizardmen (Argonians) on the open road though, which was pretty entertaining and resulted in his death.

Every player must have thought this at some point.

Part two is not available here because it may contain music.

No, just music. Out of curiosity I checked, and music from 3rd Reich is accessible.
