So has anyone completed this game? I've done the Companions and Civil War questlines now. Moving onto the College of Winterhold and Dark Brotherhood ones next. Only up to Alduin's Wall on the main questline but I see no rush to do it, mainly fooling around with lots of side quests and miscellaneous objectives.

PS Those skyrim 2012 videos are quality, look forward to part 3.

I'm pretty much just dinking around with one my characters, doing lots of exploring and side quests.

I've found out that I've "broken" at least one quest, killing someone before I was supposed to, but it looks like I can reset the quest somehow using the input command lines (pc).

I've semi-ruined a couple of quests, because I am always exploring and climbing mountains and getting into places other than the front door or front gate, etc. Pretty sure I've done a couple of tower quests backwards, killing from the top down to the bottom, and then back-up because of respawn.

I killed some lady at Pelagia Farms that I was supposed to just intimidate, but it went wrong and she attacked me. That quest will never be complete. I have stumbled upon ruins that have a pedestal that can't be activated. I killed a few bandits here, but I have heard that the pedestal is for a later quest that involves me getting a book of destruction and placing it on the pedestal, but now that I cleared the ruins out early...I read in other forums that the game won't let me complete that quest.

check out "skyrim console commands" or look at one of the elder scrolls wikis. you can input a command that will register a quest as complete automatically. i had to do this to finish a quest that bugged out on me.

Ha, if it's the same as previous Elder Scrolls games then you can use the console to do so much more than that.

You can use it to set your strength up to 1000 and be able to carry 5000 pounds of equipment, as well as being able to one-hit kill most enemies. Oh, wait, nevermind, Skyrim doesn't have attributes, that's right. Well, you can set your one-hand weapon skill crazy high, or add the best weapons and armor to your inventory, etc. Basically, you can cheat your way to godhood, if that's your thing.

It's crazy, back in Morrowind, you could cheat like crazy. Since intelligence affects Alchemy in that game, you can make a fortify intelligence potion, drink it, make another even stronger fortify intelligence potion, etc., until your intelligence is well over 1,000, at which point you can make restore health/fatigue potions that heal you something like 200 points per second for 700 seconds. Or you could make a crazy powerful potion of jump and proceed to jump half way across the island in one jump... awesome stuff. Ah, exploiting game mechanics is fun.

i know, i don't use those commands on my main character though because it's less fun for me than actually doing it the way the designers intended

The 'Creation Kit' for PC Modding was released yesterday. Additionally, a high-resolution texture pack was also released...here you can see some screenshot comparisons:

I'm still off playing mod quest after mod quest in Oblivion.

To anyone starting Oblivion, I'd recommend installing the Kvatch Rebuilt quest real early. It would have been great to play it while doing other quests and the main quest. As the name suggests, it is the story of how Kvatch is rebuilt. You help by doing a bunch of small quests. The arena is rebuilt by the end and you can do some cool fighting in there, etc.

Anyways, my plan for Skyrim is still to wait it out for a GOTY edition and also for some highly recommended mods that might enhance game play. I watched my nephew play for about half an hour on the XBox 360 and it looks like it will be fun to play (not really too fun to watch though...).

Skyrim is on sale right now at Steam. But after reading some comments about Oblivion mods, it seems like mods don't always work for the Steam "version" of Oblivion, so I will be buy the DVD of Skyrim just to avoid and problems.

From what I've heard, that doesn't matter. Apparently, the hard copy of Skyrim simply installs Steam onto your computer which then downloads the actual game from Steam. So I guess they've fixed that problem of mods working with the steam version.

I could be wrong on this though. It's something I read on the Bethesda forums.

Did anyone here buy the DVD version of Skyrim for the PC? if so, did you have to go through Steam?

I bought the PC-DVD, but it does install Steam, so you can do updates through it, and it tracks your achievements, etc.

Much easier for them to combat piracy when they require Steam to be able to play the game, eh?

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm sure that any glitches they had with Oblivion and Steam will be worked out for Skyrim then.

Really?

I figured it would be pretty hard to play a pirated version. Doesn't the game require Steam? And if so, wouldn't Steam check to see if the game you're playing is a pirated version?

If not, that's awesome. Props to the pirates.

Removing the requirement for Steam hasn't been a problem for several years now, or so I hear. There's also a group that releases the official patches as they are published so a pirated version can be kept as up-to-date as a legally bought one.

My older-ish laptop can't handle the high-resolution texture pack I think, since I'm in the lower end of the recommended / minimum requirements, and users seem to be suggesting that its best to exceed the recommended!

Currently I have an Archery Skill that should be pretty high, but when I look at my skill points it says 15 in red, but if I enter into the skill...it shows what my skill should be at.

I checked for diseases...nothing.

I haven't been to jail.

I really don't think it is affecting anything, it seems I still can shoot and gain my x3 bonus when sneaking. Does this red number 15 mean something or is this just a bug in the game?

Also, just fyi...if you have the Stormcloak Ralof with you and you end up accidentally shooting him or attacking him and he becomes your enemy, he will continue to chase you down...no matter what you do or where you go. I would fast travel to Riften or to Whiterun and the SOB would follow me and start attacking me. Basically I couldn't shake him! I thought for sure my game was ruined and I ruined the quest I was supposed to be on with him. I forgot to save early in the game too, so I was unable to go back to a point in the game before he was my enemy (unless I wanted to be at level 18 again!)

So, I figured to try going to jail. That did it, Ralof will be waiting for you outside the jail when you get out. Just like nothing happened.

Ralof has some benefits as a companion...he is fairly strong, he does not die, and whenever you run into Imperial soldiers, every Soldier in the vicinity will immediately chase Ralof down and begin attacking him (leaving you completely alone...works as a nice distraction).

The drawbacks for keeping Ralof as your companion are:

*He rats on you if he catches you stealing something

*He seems to get in your way more often than other companions

*Ralof will not carry any of your gear (if you want him to carry something, you must reverse pickpocket it into his inventory. If he catches you, he will attack you for a little bit and tell you not to try that again)
