That's kind of a good call- I really didn't like Titanic all that much, but it did its big iconic scenes so well. I'm not a fan of chick-flicks in general, but some stuff just stands out as really good film-making even if you don't like the film.

The movie is just full of classic scenes and ringing lines. I couldn't find my favorite scene, where JS confronts the Union Colonel, played by George Kennedy. Anybody know how to take a scene from the DVD and post it?

To make a gif you gotta make a vid first, (I believe).

I've tried it a couple of times, it's time consuming, you will get the movie out of dvd (given you pass the security locks) but getting to a decent file size it's what's more time and cpu consuming. It's way easier and faster to get the movie from torrents.

One of my favourites (for Satoshi Kon fans, or anyone interested in Japanese cinema) is the running scene from Millenium Actress. Sadly I can only find a poor quality vid from youtube, without subs, but visually it's amazing. It goes through a whole bunch of Japanese history, art, and Japanese cinematic styles so quickly.

Be sure to watch it in full screen. If you have surround sound, make sure you use it. The sound editing was way ahead of it's time.

Ha- blocked- Is it the chase scene, the conversation between DeNiro and Pacino, or the Pacino interrogation scene? All of those are amazing. Or something else?

The entire bank heist. From the beginning when all three walk into the bank with that great soundtrack to the end, when Pacino's character hesitates to relax his shoulder, exhales, and then pops Sizemore with a single shot to the forehead.

The tension of the shootout is certainly heightened by having had that face to face in the diner first. That confrontation was perfectly written, blocked, shot, acted, everything, as well.

All I could think about when watching that scene was the 1997 North Hollywood bank heist. I remember watching it live with copters flying overhead taking it in. Two guys in full body armor trying to get away and fully armed. I was thinking how many SWAT and LAPD converged on just these 2 guys. After watching the scene from Heat I noticed the North Hollywood heist was a selection in the screen. That was tension. I remember afterwards that the mother of one of the robbers tried to sue the LAPD for killing him. I just shook my head.

Good call, I'd forgotten just how bad Costner could be as an actor, but that's a great example of Lancaster making a great scene and anchoring the soul of the movie.
