what about This Is Spinal Tap?

Also - Life of Brian probably pips Holy Grail for me, mostly because blasphemy is funny.

Yeah and M*A*S*H, good call!

From the Tangential Thoughts dept: 'Everything you always wanted to know about sex'... isn't one of the funniest movies ever but Gene Wilder is hilarious, even when doing nothing at all (his reaction is a masterclass in deadpannery):

Anchorman was a funny movie, and is one of my favorite movies of all time. But I really don't think it qualifies as greatest comedy ever.

As for Woodruff's list...Multiplicity is a hilarious movie. I remember watching it as a kid, I loved it. Just a couple of months ago when my nephews were down visiting we found it on VOD and watched it, my nephews loved it too. It's a good comedy that's mostly family friendly. If I had a second "second" then I would second Multiplicity.

Young Frankenstein always cracked me up. And I can never get enough of Shaun of the Dead. And I am big fan of Charlie Chaplin films, so I'd throw in the Gold Rush as one of the top 10 maybe.

Have you even seen 50 comedies? Think about it. I bet you can't make a list of 50 comedies you've seen, or probably even 50 movies.

Yeah, but you're supposed to talk about FUNNY movies...

I was going to second Airplane. You can't go wrong when Lew Alcindor is in the movie (for you fools, I'm obviously talking about UCLA great and future NBA star known to most of the world as Kareem Abdul Jabbar)

You need to update the first post, guy. There's been a few more seconded and a bunch nominated since the last time.
