When's the last time you drank? How long have you been without alcohol--after drinking 'regularly'?

I usually (95% of the time) drink once a week, 95% of those times either on a Friday or Saturday (today [aka right now] being one of the 5% of non-weekend nights). I know I can go fucking forever without drinking though...(remember before 2012 when I made fun of people who drank?).

Years from now, you'll think about this position of yours, have a sip of your beer, and say, "gosh, I was wrong."

I generally think of irrational behaviour as being objectively bad. And addiction is generally irrational (in terms of the obvious destructive addictions like gambling, alcohol, heroin, etc - being addicted to being awesome is ok).

Sure there's probably some exceptions I can't think of right now, but at a high level that's my view.

How about drinking in 'moderation'? Let's broaden 'addiction' to include the inability to stop something for 6 months. E.g. if ya drink once a week but can't permanently quit, then you're 'addicted'.

Yeah in my definition thats not addiction.

Do you drink to get drunk? Or just to loosen up a little and gain some confidence (and less sensitivity) with the ladies?

Dukasaur wrote:Yeah we can predict that addictions are bad in the general sense (ie. completely independently of any specific harmful effects from the items one is addicted to) because they at the very least create burdensome opportunity costs. If I feel compelled to sit at the bar and have another beer, I'm not doing whatever might be my optimal activity for self-improvement at that time.

Of course, we can postulate that there are moments when sitting at the bar having another beer is my optimal activity for self-improvement at that time. Nonetheless, even if sometimes it is, at other times it isn't, so the basic statement remains unchallenged. If even some of the time my addiction compels me into a non-optimal path, then it creates a cost.

you can drink 20 beer all day long and not beeing addicted
but youre addicted if you NEED to drink alcohol ( for better feeling or what so ever)
some people are alcoholics and still reach old age

some smoke and still become 100 years

some smoke dope all their life and have no problems

if you are addicted to heroin, gambling, cocain, pills ( drugs)
things get veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery complicated

choose your drug

That's pretty ironic. This is the shirt that got me stopped at the Peace Bridge in 1991 and barred from entering the U.S. for twenty long years:
Image
The official reason I got barred from the U.S. was because I'd been arrested for possession in 1985, but if I hadn't been dumb enough to wear that shirt to the border the bitch probably wouldn't have taken the time to research my file that thoroughly.

The one pictured above is rather gentle. The one I had included holes and also I think either a Harley-Davidson or Indian logo on the back, which were also probably contributing factors.

I'm probably drunk right now. I like being drunk with some people.

Usually old friends.

And I was with an old friend (and his wife and my wife) only 45 minutes ago..

Maybe longer...because it's taking about 10 minutes to type this post without typos...

Yes.

Whether or not I choose to completely depends on why I'm not. If it's just someone on CC saying "I BET YOU CANT NOT DRINK HURRDURR" then it wouldn't be worth my time. For all they know, I could just lie out of my ass and say I didn't drink...If it was for a girlfriend or something then yeah, I would have no problem.

Like I said, I'm addicted to not being addicted to anything. Never smoked or snorted anything and I never will.
