That said, Star Wars is overrated crap, and if you think the new movie is gonna even come close to the old ones, you're gonna be disappointed. George Lucas has ruined everything he's ever done.

Star Wars vs. Christmas
(by Jim)
So I have a SERIOUS problem, and I need my network's help.
I (of course) purchased tickets to the new Star Wars movie on opening weekend. I couldn't go
on Opening Night, Friday Dec. 17, 2015. So I went and got tickets for Dec. 18, in the evening.
(Lux Level obviously, you can't expect me to sit with the proles.)
Now today I found out that my brother scheduled our Annual Family Christmas party on that
same evening.
I'm at a loss as-to what I should do.
Do I skip the party and potentially offend my family?
Do I attend the party, and turn my back on my childhood?
So I'm taking a poll and will do what the group decides. Please comment and let me know what
you think I should do. Majority wins! (Of course I will weigh your votes and comments based on
your intelligence and how much I like you.)
I know, that some readers may consider this a very "First World" problem. Please don't judge
me because I have no perspective. This is deeply important to me, and my feelings matter!
(Please feel free to ask pertinent questions necessary to make an informed vote.)
riskllama wrote:yeah, sorry about that. no bad taste was implied, Jim.

Had the same problem when the Vikings were in the championship game against the Falcons. That was the year Gary Anderson (kicker) had a perfect season, never missing a field goal. Chris Carter, Randy Moss, Randall Cunningham. Vikes were 15-1 that year. Turned out the same day and same time as the Championship game, I had already committed in concrete 6 months earlier to some very expensive Joshua Bell (violinist) tickets, and he was fiddling the Brahm's violin concerto. Long story short, we did so much bumming out, obviously wanting to watch the Vikings. For weeks we were in agony. The day of, we decided not to listen to the radio or ask for the score, but record the game on VCR and watch it at home after the concert.
Too bad Orchestra hall was right across the street from the Metrodome. Too bad the game and the concert got out roughly the same time. We couldn't ignore the throngs of stunned Viking's fans exiting the Metrodome who walked in front of us in crosswalks, every block we went. Viking's lost when Anderson missed the kick in OT. We didn't even watch the game we were all waiting so badly to watch.
Looking back, I sure am glad on that day and at that time I was enjoying some beautiful music with loved ones rather than investing my energy and time into one of the biggest depression laden let-downs in NFL history to be shared with total strangers. Granted a championship football game happens in real time and maybe only once a generation, and that Star Wars will be in theaters for months and available to you many many many times over.... Give your Star Wars tickets to someone special as a gift, attend your Christmas party and spend some QT with your family. A ticket is like 10 bucks dude, the return you get just from the giving of such a gift will be ten-fold. Plus, I bet you it even turns out, at the Christmas party, someone else will bring up Star Wars and put together an outing for a party that was cut short for another reason anyways.

Are you comparing Star Wars to the Viking loss? Saying that the movie is gonna suck and I'll be disappointed?
jimboston wrote:riskllama wrote:call in a bomb threat.
Hmm.. tempting but dangerous.
Also possibly in bad taste.

If Chewbacca is your all time favorite, then it's possible
In reality, no, not at all. Comparing something that can wait with something that can't, as well as something that is important and something that isn't. Provided a few caveats as well

Go to Christmas with family and regret it.
Then go see the movie at your earliest convenience and upgrade to 3D with the extra $20 or use it to pay for youre soda and popcorn.

This would've worked, but I had a falling out with Carrie Fisher after a drunken night of partying back in the 90's.
