The guys I was working with saw green flashes on the horizon last night.

I joked that it was the spearhead of the Martian invasion.

Shortly afterwards, all the lights on the highway went out.

Generally speaking, green flashes are overloaded electrical transformers exploding.

Green lights in the sky are just exploding transformers in the distance, reflecting off the clouds. Nothing to see here.

Of course, if I wake up this afternoon and giant tripods are walking through town, I will admit I was wrong.

Tom Cruise fought off giant tripods.

How did bipeds become tripods? Did your phone switch that on you Duke?

My mention of tripods walking through town was very clearly a reference to H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds.

And yes, Tom Cruise did participate in a terrible remake of the movie made from that book.

Best thing about that was Cruise asking people not to reveal the 'surprise ending'. Which was the same as the book published in 1895.

A secondhand report from someone who is not known to me doesn't fill me with confidence in the veracity of the story.

With some of the amazing things Boston Dynamics has shown us, I don't think extra terrestrial would be my first thought upon seeing either tripods or giant bipeds. That's just things they have revealed to the public.

It might help if I perceived their craft coming from the sky but even then, they could have just left the earths surface and returned.
