If pot was legal we would lose a great stereotype, Pot heads. Right now we see pot heads as stupid idiots wasting their lives, this is because only stupid idiots would smoke pot in the first place and make it that obvious. If it was legal more people who are smart would smoke pot and we would loose something dear. :(

You wanna see the effects of pot? Come to work with me and you can see first hand. I've got a guy who is a heavy pot smoker, he's in his mid 20's but talking to him you'd think he was a 10 year old. It is quite evident that most of his brain cells are fried. But hey! Go ahead and roll a big fat one!

By heavy do you mean like fourteen times a day?

I can show you a man who drinks alcohol to that equivalent that has pretty much no liver now.

Are you attempting to bolster the anti-pot argument by presenting the extreme worst case scenario?

for medicinal purposes and, small amounts for personal use. you should be able to grow your own plant.

if it becomes legal the cops can do some real police work instead of hitting the nickel & dimers.

I think if someone is going to sell they should have a license fee that is equivalent to that of a liquor license and said vendor should be held responsible if someone should get killed due to over consumption.
just like cutting someone off when they're too drunk.

LIKE WITH EVERYTHING ELSE. THERE NEEDS TO BE RULES & REGULATIONS.

ALBUQUERQUE — Two police officers have sued Burger King Corp., claiming they were served hamburgers that had been sprinkled with marijuana.

I guess you can "Have it your Way" at Burger King.

Ah, I sooooo love these conversations! I think it should be totally freaking legal! They should just tax it like ciggarettes though you know? and none of that cheap crap either! I want that damn good cronic shit!

I agree that pot shodul be legal, but i tinhk BOTH sides here are too extreme.

I believe that if people can be allowed to smoke cigaretes or drink, then pot isn't any worse. Most people who smoke pot do it as often as they drink (for peopel with some self control that woudl be about once or twice a month) which isnt' going to lead to severe brain damage liek jay_a2j cited.

I also think that the medicinal argument is complete bullshit. For optical surgery, they know what chemical in marijuana gives the desired results and give patients a synthetic form ofit in pill form which serves the same purpose without having people blazed in the operating room.

Whoever posted that table on the first or second page: I would seriously doubt whoever did that study. Because they labeled heroin as having a less severe hangover than alcohol i tinhk its complete bullshit. People die from heroine withdrawal alone, nearly eveyone who tries to quit heroine cold turkey will die, which is why they need to go onto a methadone regiment. I've never seen any such situation for alcohol.

My moderate opinion: People should be allowed to purchase marijuana legally, since msot people who WOULD smoke it ARE smoking it right now regardless. It would lead, as many have said, to less street violence over selling it, as well as a much more environmentally friendly alternative to cotton. Growing it, while a bit wierd (ie people who distill their own spirits, or make their own wine), should be legal, so long as its not being distributed illegally (that is tax-free on the black market).

The only problem with methadone is that it's basically switching out one addiction for another. And I've never heard of a heroin hangover before, so maybe your reference is a little skewed.

Definition of Hangover:
hangĀ·oĀ·ver (hngvr)
1. Unpleasant physical effects following the heavy use of alcohol.
2. A letdown, as after a period of excitement.
3. A vestige; a holdover: hangovers from prewar legislation.

i'm not talking about a hangover, i jsut checked, the table specifically referred to withdrawal

withdrawal is the side effects of stopping an addiciton. Peopel who have tried to stop their heroine addiciton on their own can die from the withdrawal symptoms, thier body craves heroine. Heroine's a pretty disgusting drug, and i wholeheartedly believe it shodul be banned. Alcoholics, however don't die from thier body craving alcohol when they try and quit drinking.

Also, when they switch the heroine addict over to methadone they slowly wean the addict off of methadone, i don't know the biology behind it, but its less dangerous than weaning them off of heroine without a substitue.

Problem with making people pay high taxes (were it to be legalized) is that it takes the main benefit of legalizing it away. That is, reduced smuggling. Stick a nasty tax on pot and the smugglers will still be able to make profit, thus sucking our economy dry to the benefit of crime lords in colombia...

No one's saying to tax it so much its unaffordable, the people who import (and by import i mean smuggle) marijuana into the united states are marking it up a LOT. since a lot of suburban teenagers can afford to buy it from an overpriced drug dealer, i'm sure they could afford to get it from a legal instution with a slight tax.

Even if it didnt' completely destroy marijuana smugglers, it would give people an outlet to buy marijuana without supporting violent gangs, which woudl severely decrease the power of smugglers, which is certainly a step in the right direction.

Heroin addicts never die from withdrawal. I don't know where you get that idea from but its completely wrong.

Pot should be legalized for the simple reason that it would stop coppers being able to take it from you just so they can smoke it.

I looked into heroine withdrawal a bit more, i guess its not as bad as i have formerly believed (i remember hearing that people can die from quitting heroine cold turkey...), however its still worse than alcohol withdrawal. Alcohol is never so bad that they need to switch you to a different drug then wean you off of that. I know that much for a fact, so i'd question that inital table anyway.

Heroin weakens your immune system, when you stop taking it you are more susceptible to viruses.

Alcohol withdrawal doesn't last as long as heroin withdrawal but I am led to believe that alcohol withdrawal can be just as nasty, just shorter term.

You could always go conspiracy theory and say the only reason it's illegal is because the people keeping it illegal make a lot of money off it, or maybe big drug lords pay the people to keep it illegal.

I'm really happy my friend tasha isnt here to see that you were compairing alcohol to herion.. Her mother Died on Herion.. you want to see what it does to your system? Maybe you should ask her.. Since she grew up in that environment with a mom she had to put to bed every night. Luckily she saw it enough where she didn't like it and she wont put her son Mason through it.. However her son will never ever meet his grandmother now because she ODed on it.. Right after rehab too.. nothing worse then seeing a friend go through losing their mother like that.

Its not conspiracy if you see direct correlations between a perfectly viable resource which takes less water (hemp), and a current, but inferior, product (cotton) trying to keep it out of our market.

Also, TONS of research has been done that shows pot is about as good for you as smoking or alcohol. With privatized prisons there is a definate push by lobbyists (yes, congress is swayed by big business) for a larger prison population, which is why we have one of the largest prison populations in the developed world.
