That outcome surprised me, likewise Oklahoma State losing in Morgantown was a shocker. They even drove 90 yards, had a 1st & goal and came up empty. Missing a field goal that might have sent it into OT.

I was hoping LSU at Georgia might reach OT. It was a great game with two excellent QBs putting on a show abusing young defenses. In other SEC action both South Carolina and Tennessee were fortunate to escape with wins today. Mississippi visited Tuscaloosa with high hopes but laid a big goose egg and Arkansas hung in there better than I expected against A&M.

Didn't think Oklahoma or Notre Dame looked impressive in their game, while Oregon, Stanford and Washington all showed they could play well in a heavy rain.

After sleeping on it, yeah, that loss still hurts.

Nebraska should fire their defensive staff and hire Texas State's.

East Carolina went into Chapel Hill and put a major whuppin' on the Tar Heels. Last time they accomplished that on North Carolina's home field was around 1975 or so.

A good Northern Illinois team whupped a so-so Purdue team too. Arizona State beats Southern Cal by three touchdowns and Kippen gets the sack on the flight home.

USU's star QB went down early against rival BYU after a knee injury. Nothing official yet, but its looking like either a MCL or ACL tear along with being done for the season. BYU would go on to completely route USU 31-14.

In other MWC news, Nevada and SDSU got into a high scoring game that went into OT, but SDSU edged out Nevada 51-44.

Once again, Nevada shows that they have yet to understand the concept of defense, while SDSU finally figured why they send players not on the defensive side of the ball onto the field.

Wow, #6 Georgia dodges a bullet in Tennessee in a game I did not anticipate being close at all. Two fabulous final drives for touchdowns from both teams sends the game into overtime. The Bulldogs score with 5 seconds left on the clock.

The Vols have first possession, convert a 3rd down and a running play turns the corner and stretches for the goal line. Referee signals TD, but the ball was lose at the end of the play and it's under review.

Best case scenario it's a TD and maybe the worst is a 1st & goal for Tennessee. But there's another worst as replay clearly shows the running back lost possession before breaking the plane... and it's a touchback!

Vols hold the Bulldogs, who kick a 43 yd field goal for the win. Also in the SEC Georgia State manages to score against #1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Notre Dame is an UGLY UNIFORM OF THE WEEK contender.

Tennessee always plays Georgia closer than they really should. A close game is simply to be expected. Injuries crippled us though, particularly Marshall going out early and Bennett and Scott-Wesley were crucial as the passing game seem confused after they went out of the game. Hoping none of these are serious but the way Marshall was in severe pain and the nature of Bennett and Wesley's injuries...I wouldn't be surprised if they are all out for extended periods. As well, the punter received a concussion on a questionable no call situation (They say the defender was pushed into him, I'm not sure as I couldn't rewind and never saw a replay). Aaron Murray also regressed a bit in this game after playing amazingly well in SC and against LSU.

Other important plays other than the fumble for a touch back:

1. Georgia misses FG.
2. Aaron Murray's 57 yard run.
3. Tennessee interference leading to a Georgia 1st and Goal with a minute left.
4. Georgia defense crowds too much inside leaving the outside completely open on 4th and 1, leading to a long run and a Tennessee first and 10 on the 23. (Seriously, what the hell was the Defensive coordinator thinking leaving no one on the outside? or was there some kind of miscommunication?)

The Offensive play calling by both Tennessee and Georgia
on the final drives of regulation were excellent. I didn't
think the pass interference in the end zone was big,
since the Bulldogs had plenty of downs left and with no
time outs weren't going to risk running the ball...
likewise the Vols weren't going to give up an easy catch.
Better a penalty, than a tying TD.

The Ohio State/Northwestern game was great too.
Auburn upsets Ole Miss, while Sanford survives Washington,
Oklahoma survives TCU and Oklahoma State should have lost
to Kansas State. SMU came back bigtime against Rutgers only
to lose in triple OT.

Florida State was impressive shutting out Maryland with over
600 yards of offense, while Baylor topped 600 yards (8 TDs)
in the first half of their game with West Virginia.

Michigan stomped Minnesota. This game was significant in that for the first time, Devin Gardner did not throw a single interception in a game in which he started. In fact, the Michigan offense had zero turn overs for the first time this year.

Bollocks.

I suppose I shouldn't blame him with half his receivers not being the ones he usually throws too but Murray played badly again today.

and an unbeaten Missouri team played well on the road.
LSU & Florida is a good one, though I expect the Tigers
to turn it up in the second half. Alabama has a scrimmage
in Lexington, Kentucky this evening.

Texas defied their 2 TD underdog status and stomped OU
in the Red River Rivalry played in the Cotton Bowl.

Baylor's off to a slow start at Kansas State, but receivers dropping
3rd down passes tends to have that effect. They start catching the
ball and it'll be off to the races.

Oregon & Washington are slugging it right now.

Pokes had issues against UNM, yet still pulled off the win going 4-2 and 2-0 in conference.

SJSU also edged out CSU/sheep, 34-27.

BSU currently playing USU, struggling against USU's defense, but USU having issues of their own losing 3 key players on offense, most notable being Chuckie Keeton.

Nebraska rolled against some Big 10 school.

Mizzou stomped on Jawja's throat (sorry strike).

And Texas actually looked like a decent team against Oklahoma in their upset win.

11 Teams are bowl eligible after today...

#5 Stanford upset at Utah 27-21...goal line stand seals win
#7 Georgia falls to #25 Missouri 41-26 Tigers lost their QB
#12 Oklahoma dominated by Texas 36-20
#18 Michigan loses at Penn State in 4 OTs
#19 Northwestern got run over by Wisconsin 35-6

while
#1 Alabama was held scoreless by Kentucky the 1st Quarter 48-7
#2 Oregon plays starters in the 2nd half to beat #16 Washington 45-24
*9 Texas A&M survives at Mississippi 41-38
#10 LSU ran through #17 Florida 17-6
#15 Baylor starters play second half & hold off Kansas State 35-25
#20 Texas Tech slips past Iowa State 42-35

muy_thaiguy wrote:Nebraska rolled against some Big 10 school.

Nebraska beat up on Purdue (1-5) 44-7 and don't play Ohio State or Wisconsin but do have the meat of their Big Ten schedule coming up. Warming up with Minnesota & Northwestern before playing Michigan & Michigan State.

There's some interesting unbeaten teams remaining,
Florida State jumped Oregon in the BCS Poll after
stomping #3 Clemson in SC and host 6-0 Miami next week.

Missouri (7-0) plays #21 South Carolina this week after
impressive wins over #7 Georgia and #22 Florida with
Tennessee, Ole Miss and #16 Texas A&M remaining...
and maybe a visit to Atlanta for the SEC Championship?

Alabama has #13 LSU and #11 Auburn remaining and
Oregon plays #12 UCLA this week with #6 Stanford,
Utah, Arizona and #25 Oregon State coming up.

Baylor (6-0) is posting basketball scores this year and
still play #15 Oklahoma, #10 Texas Tech, #19 Oklahoma St.
and finish with TCU & Texas.

Ohio State has Penn State, #22 Michigan and likely a Big Ten
Title Game against Michigan State or Nebraska remaining.

Minnesota becomes bowl eligible coming back
to bump off #24 Nebraska.

#7 Miami dodges a bullet at home against Wake Forest,
who missed a few opportunities to put this one out
of reach, but the Hurricanes score a touchdown with
less than a minute remaining to win it.

How good is Florida State? Their starters put up 35 points
in the 1st Quarter and sit out the rest of the game against
NC State. Miami visits Tallahassee next week.

meanwhile...
#9 Clemson struggles with Maryland before pulling away late.
Duke upsets #12 Va Tech, #15 Oklahoma beats #10 Texas Tech
and down 17-0 entering the 4th Quarter, South Carolina
beats Missouri in double overtime.

The Tide rolls over Tennessee, Oregon & UCLA go into the half tied at 14 before the Ducks run away with it in the second half. Buckeyes were on
cruise control, Baylor runs away with another one and Texas seems to
have their mojo back whuppin up on TCU.

Florida goes most of the field on one play to get inside the 10 and then fail to score.

The Fighting Irish should have lost to the Midshipmen today and
Nebraska was even luckier to prevail.

Both games tonight are more interesting than the NFL game.
Add in a Wild-Caps game and I don`t think I will have much time for Thursday Night Football. Which isn`t a thing, so it`s ok. (If I pretend it doesn`t exist, eventually it will die)

A lot of people are saying the Wyoming game against Fresno (undefeated #16 I think) is a good trap game. Fresno has NEVER won in Laramie, has a defense that has been exposed through the air and on the ground (Wyoming has an offense that when it gets going, is high octane and very well balanced) and a very one dimensional offense (they've had issues running the ball, except against Nevada who can't stop anyone), but their passing game is very dangerous.

Elements going into Saturday's game-
High of 48 (game starts at 8:15pm, probably around 32 by that point), wind is fact of life in Laramie and could very well, along with the colder temps, effect Fresno's passing game, and a defense that is losing depth and has been exposed not only through passing, but through the ground game.

However, a lot depends on how quickly the Wyoming offense gets going, and the changes to the defense since firing Tormey. Our D-line coach took over as DC and we hired a defensive consultant who has had proven defenses over the years (most recent was at Oklahoma State for the 2011-2012 season). With Tormey, in 2 games, we allowed 1100 yards and 100+ points of total offense.

Yeah, he gone.
