As in...standup comedy? Dude, that is awesome! Will there be some YouTubeishness afterward?

Well hell, I do that every day. Does it count if it's not on purpose? <grin>

I'm just curious, but, how come when I stand up it's not that big of an event, yet when you stand up you get to make a thread about it?

No way I'd can make it too new york, but if you can post something like a video or even a written version of all your jokes I'd watch/read it. Thanks for sharing, good luck!

I just would have the nerve to get on the stage.
Good luck.
Don't forget that trick for getting rid of nerves. Imagine that you're naked. Some say that you should imagine the audience naked, but when I get naked my audience claps! Or laughs. Depends how far down they look.

Nervous? It's only talking.
Tell you what, when I get up I'll imagine you naked, Tiggy, then the audience won't know what I'm laughing at...

It's like I tell my cadet drill team before they go on to perform if someone says they're nervous..."Nervous is good, because it gets you ready for the performance. Worried is bad, because it distracts you from the performance."

Without being immodest, I was absolutely brilliant.
And it was a huge buzz.
I'll be doing more of this.
Much more.

I will be doing more - I'm looking into the ins and outs of it now.
Basically, nobody's gonna pay me to appear at such an early stage, so there's two sorts of shows I can do until I'm a bit more experienced - Open Mike stuff and "bringers".
The "bringers", you people could actually help me with (don't know dates or venues just yet). Basically, if you turn up and get n people to come and see you, you get a spot of a certain length. n can be anything between 3 and 30 people, depending on the venue. It'll be a little while before I do either of these, as most venues want a little longer session than I currently have, so I've a bit more writing to do first.
Also I've some real-life stuff to catch up on (mostly mundane domestic, and the never-ending pile of paperwork that life in the US seems to entail) and some research into whether I need to go into NYC all the time or whether there are other clubs. Watch this space -and if anyone's interested in coming to see "Jonesey" perform, say so here so I'll have an idea how many bringer events I can sign up for.
Once I've written quite a lot more stuff, and stood up enough times to feel I know what I'm doing, I shall go back to comedy sensei for some more training. I can see this getting somewhere after a while.

Dude, and I say this in complete seriousness, at some point once you get more comfortable, you should start lobbying David Letterman...he likes to bring up-and-coming comedians on his show.

Though I am not an expert, I have been around a few successful beginnings. I would definitely suggest going outside of NY city to develop your skills a bit and then go to NY City when you are ready to "hit it big". (even at an amateur night) At the same time, I would be a bit careful about staying too close to home, getting "just friends", because you want a truly honest appraisal, even this early. Be aware that you are going to "flop" at first. Hopefully not always, but sometimes. Sometimes you will have just picked the wrong "venue"/audience, and sometimes you will try something that just doesn't work. That's OK. ALL the good ones flop at first, (even not at first sometimes! ) Just move on and keep innovating. Comedy is a skill like anything else that just plain has to be developed (though some people "have it" and others .. like myself, just don't-- definitely a case of "do as I say, not as I can do!").

You should be nervous. Not only are you not funny, but you annoy people (and I'm not talking about the troll factory of CC). The best you can hope for is crickets, but be prepared for boos. I think this'll be a good reality check for you.

As usual, ViperOverLord has no idea what he talks about, and so he produces not speech, but flatulence.
